Re: Want to talk about NoScript? Post here.
If you're having usability issues or crashes with 5.1.8.5 (which is the latest), please report these issues to the NoScript dev, Giorgio. He's especially interested in reports of crashes and seeing crash signatures.

I was hoping to report that NS 5.1.5 worked but that is not the case. I am getting my search and location bars displayed but not on all pages. It seems the primary?? window is not graced with those bars but others are. 5.1.7 did not have any positive results.
I may live w/ this for a while.

Imo, until you decide to give it the time to disable your add-ons and then one-by-one enable each one while testing the issue each time you do so --- you will likely not be able to address the problem you are having which as far as I'm aware is relatively unique to your situation.wavymoon wrote:I was hoping to report that NS 5.1.5 worked but that is not the case. I say this because I have personally never had this issue with any of the last few versions of NS all the way up to the current NS v5.1.8.5 -- None o the past NS releases including the current 5.1.8.5 have had this "Search and location bars" missing issue as they have all worked for me. More importantly - I have not heard of any other reports of issues such as yours which would suggest there may likely be add-on interference somewhere....
How many add-ons do you have?
If you simply type in "about:support" in the address bar and then click on the "Copy text to clipboard" button (link) near the top-left of the "Troubleshooting Infomratino" page you can then right-click and "Paste" what you have saved to your clipboard (select "Paste" from right-click context menu) in your reply in this topic --- be sure and hide the data by selecting all that you paste and clicking on the "hide" button at the top of the posting area (as I have done as an example below. Note if you like you can remove information copied below the add-ons if you prefer).
There maybe more obvious add-ons that may possibly be involved in the issue you have that can be tried before the others thus perhaps saving you some time.....
Example of my "Copy text to clipboard" information:

You are likely right about that. I may do a binary chop approach though.

Question: If NS is the "cause" then why don't I have the same problem? I think it has something to do with how you have your toolbars arranged. I didn't have an issue until I moved my Search window to the menu bar.Pale Moon Rising wrote:Question: If NS is the "cause" then why don't I have the same problem? ^ Oh ya -- I don't even display the menu bar in order to save space since it is minimally used which can be brought up easy enough via F10 when needed... my bad ....
So you are saying that you have tested for all your add-ons other than NS and none of them were involved? If so, I'll take you at your word as I'm certainly not about to rearrange things just to test this out.

Yes. I tested it extensively on my system and NS was the culprit. I got rid of NS and set uBlock Origin to "Advanced" and it, surprisingly (with a little patience), blocks scripts as well as ads. Since the changeover, I've not had a problem with my Search window disappearing!Pale Moon Rising wrote:So you are saying that you have tested for all your add-ons other than NS and none of them were involved? Hmm, I'd have to say the presumption that your results are definitive across the board is clearly debatable as it does not appear to be a universal problem for everyone under the same circumstances based on this post: Disappearing Search Window.LAR Grizzly wrote:Yes. Re: Want to talk about NoScript? Post here.
Thanks for the clarification -- I don't want to beat-a-dead-horse here -- but the point is while you have got the results you want by removing NS -- you have still not ruled out an extraneous add-on and/or profile etc. issue in combination with NS as you posted here: viewtopic.php?p=143219#p143221 (from the same topic I previously posted) -- and while I totally get your point that it is not worth the effort to look into .... There can be situations where an issue may disappear if NS is disabled even though the problem may actually be caused by something else. By not testing for all add-ons and/or testing with a fresh profile the conclusion to the problem cannot definitively be considered to be specifically due to NS even though the results are admittedly suggestive of this.LAR Grizzly wrote:I never said that my results were definitive across the board, although, my replies may have suggested so. That all said, I'm in agreement with you that as long as you've got the result you want -- why bother anymore with it.

Re: Want to talk about NoScript? Post here.
I messed with it for quite some time, trying to figure out if it was a combination of add-ons or just NS itself. I did this before I posted the problem here in this forum. I wasn't able to figure out what was causing the problem, exactly. I did notice that when NS is installed, there is an additional "flexible space" added to the Customize Palette. I tried using one, then the other, figuring that was the problem. I came up blank. I only had the trouble when I checked for updates (which is strange). I lived with it for as long as I could take it. When I found out that uBlock could handle scripts in Advanced Mode, it was easier to switch than to try to get NS to act appropriately.Pale Moon Rising wrote:That all said, I'm in agreement with you that as long as you've got the result you want -- why bother anymore with it.
The disappearing Search window was sporadic. It was frustrating trying to troubleshoot when you can't get the same behavior every time you try something. You can't tell if you found the problem or not (just to have it rear its ugly head again later). Switching was less nerve racking than the troubleshooting!

AS to whether NS is Causing my problem; causes are often many pronged. Would I have the problem if I was not using some other particular extension? Maybe, likely actually. Does one or the other break some programming rule or are there no rules? Not a question I will be able to answer directly!

I don't find it in PM extensions page.
I use Linux x86-64.
And the FFx plugin page for uMatrix tells me that its only available for Firefox when I run PM…
(I searched this forum for uMatrix and if there is a better hit than this thread, but the first dozen or so hits have been either this thread, or ones even less about uMatrix and its PM install.)
