Main page verbiage with regard to MacOS support.

Post by BenFenner » 2023-08-03, 22:51

I have absolutely no idea if what I'm about to ask makes any sense or has been hashed out recently, but are we still not considering MacOS a fully supported operating system by Pale Moon?
Just curious if the language on the main page should get updated?
For example, if I send a buddy who uses MacOS to the main site for downloading, would they be confused about the support or where to find things?

Off-topic:
Also, wondering if it makes sense to reference "GNU/Linux" instead of "Linux"?

That was probably changed when Mac OS support was dropped a couple of years ago, before dbsoft stepped up to make those builds again. It is definitely officially supported, given the subforum right here, and dbsoft is active and helps with any Mac OS specific issues.

That was my guess, but I really have not been paying attention to these things closely. Just thought I'd bring it up.

I've updated the index page to not make it look like an exhaustive list, mentioning Mac OS specifically. It may take a little to propagate through the web server caches.

Generally, people use the term "Linux" and "Linux operating system" to refer to it. Since purists have been hammering on GNU/Linux so much it's become a meme and the term itself implies purism or affiliation with it, I'm actively avoiding it. Yes, by pushing so hard for it, they have achieved the exact opposite of what they intended.

The update to the index page shows for me.

Any desire to use Apple's official capitalization and spacing?

(I can never keep track, but apparently now it is "macOS". )

Sorry for flubbing it in earlier posts, and the thread title. I would edit if I could.

Depending on how many versions it supports, technically it might need to be "Mac OS, Mac OS X, OS X, and macOS"

Hence my "Mac OS" compromise ;)
(to be honest, I think camelCasing for a product name is utterly stupid)
