Would Privacy Badger be an adequate replacement for most Ghostery users, or does Ghostery do more/different stuff?

By the way, it almost goes without saying that promotional messaging systems are a bad, bad idea. That sort of thing is what is killing Firefox's marketshare.
Hopefully people vote with their feet and switch extensions or fork Ghostery.

Considering their track record, I'm not entirely surprised.

This is so stupid!! Ad-blocking/Script-blocking add-ons (blocking in general) are supposed to fight off those pesky ads/tracking ads that invade your browser/privacy and security, not the f****g opposite!?? They should of done it something like what Adguard Adblocker has done, which is just a feedback tool (that's optional) and two social media buttons to promote their product/add-on (even though I think that's wrong, but hey they got to make a living somehow).
With Pale Moon by my side, surfing the web is quite enjoyable and takes my headaches away!
