viewtopic.php?t=8894 remembered me of my surprise about the setup procedure.
It asks for address and password and then seems to request hints from Mozilla
about mail server names, guessing by the domain part of the address.
The process can be aborted, but not skipped.
Although I don't suspect it doing evil,
I'd prefer a button ‹try automated setup› that can be triggered optionally.
Then with IMAP it downloads/syncs all messages, regardless of their size and age, in all folders, including trash.
Perhaps these defaults should be changed.

Re: feature requests for account setup procedure
What, and make it less convenient for people who don't know what IMAP, SMTP and POP is?

Re: feature requests for account setup procedure
A choice ‹try automated setup› or ‹continue manual setup› shouldn't be too unconvenient.
(And if the Mozilla database doesn't know, it doesn't admit it, but guesses and fills the fields with nonsense. This will render them completely helpless.)

My concern is also that the only way to skip the server check and proceed is to press Advanced config.
