Warning: make sure your e-mail is valid

Post by Admin » 2015-06-12, 21:36

Please make sure to verify that your e-mail as registered on this forum is both VALID and can receive e-mail.

Any account with an invalid e-mail address (that bounces) can have their account deactivated at any time without warning. It will usually be extremely difficult to reactivate after that point if you no longer have access to the e-mail in your user data, because staff will not be able to easily verify your identity.

PLEASE DO THIS NOW:
Go to your User Control Panel (link at the top) and go to the tab "Profile" then the choice "Edit account settings" on the left, verify your e-mail address is correct and if not, update it!

My e-mail address *should* be "valid." It's the one I've been using for around 10 years. But sometime within the past 24 hours, Verizon decided it is "spam" and disabled it. I'm going to try to get things fixed, but I doubt I can do it quickly. I can't access their support forum, and it always takes a while to get through by phone.

I too have had people report an occasional 'bounce' when sending me email.
No more than every month or two, but makes you wonder what important mail may never arrived!

A non technical user might not know that a message should be resent, when they get an 'undeliverable' message from the postmaster.

The provider is a large 'free' service, and once the domain was blocked by some sites due to a member sending spam from their account.

Okay guys don't put all your eggs in a basket, is wise to have an email account for this task of validation process, if you don't want to give your work/personal address. As long is from a good reputation server rarely we see that the email bounces. Usually some of the big ones like Gmail, yahoo, outlook emails addresses work fine.

If your email from corporate/personal domain bounces, try again please. If bounces again you can check if your server is blocked or not. Any free online tool may tell you, just use some keywords like "blacklist email server list". I found this one interesting: http://mxtoolbox.com/blacklists.aspx

Also if your account still is blocked, that means that your ISP use dynamic IP ports and someone in the IP number that you use now made something wrong in the past. So if this trouble continues for long you will need to contact your ISP customer support and check if the IP number is not blocked.

I hope this help for people that cannot enter here but had register for the forum.

It's not so much a problem when the bounce is temporary. If your account is deactivated it will simple require reactivation via e-mail. The problem is when your e-mail on the forum is no longer valid (as in: you don't have access to it any longer). If your account gets deactivated in that case, then it becomes very difficult to recover. Also, if your e-mail address is invalid and it lands in someone else's inbox, someone else can potentially reset your password. In this case forum staff will be none the wiser about the status of your account because it doesn't bounce, and likely not believe you when you claim to be the account owner.

This is why it is very important to keep your account details current.
