Updates opening new tabs
I guess that says it. It is annoying me more and more that I'll be reading a web page, or googling or whatever then suddenly an add-on updates, and subsequently opens a new tab. Not all of them do. Theme Font Size Changer does. Adblock Latitude does. There must be a setting somewhere to stop this happening. Mustn't there? It is getting on my tits!

There is no such setting. In the case of ABL it happens when ever the add-on is initialized and had a change in version number. I am using it for changelog and important instructions. However, this behavior will change some in the future. As for others that do it.. You are out of luck.

Set Pale Moon to never update addons automatically, check for updates before lunch break, update during lunch break, close popups after lunch break. So you won't have these popups while reading something.
EDIT: That also works with other breaks, even visiting the restrooms...

Again, in the case of Adblock Latitude the firstrun/upgrade page is used to deliver important info to users who don't bother to check the other sources of info. Don't just dismiss it.

Okay, thanks guys. Yes, Sven, that's how I used to do it, many moons ago (before they went Pale - or anyway I did). Guess I'll go back to that.
And just, thanks, Tobin.
Cheers!

To close it doesn't mean not to read it. People will or will not read it, that's the way it was, is and will be and there is nothing you or anybody else can do about it. But when these pages pop up while you read something that is important to you just to display in many cases (not specifically ABL) some generic stuff or technical details that many don't understand or care about it is not likely to be read at all. For me it is much more relaxed to update while I am not doing something important and than have a look at update messages and the like afterwards making it much more likely that I read important info.Matt A Tobin wrote:Again, in the case of Adblock Latitude the firstrun/upgrade page is used to deliver important info to users who don't bother to check the other sources of info. Re: Updates opening new tabs
I think you misunderstood Tobin.
If people get updates automatically, there is often no indication to the user with the exception of this page that opened that an add-on has been updated -- and people will then be unaware that some functionality or behavior of an extension may have changed. People wouldn't easily know to check an extension's website themselves in that case. The mere fact that these pages are displayed are an indicator to the user that an extension was updated, and the people that care can get the information about it they should take note of. It very much serves a purpose, that is why several add-on developers have these pages.

Moonchild, it would be good if they didn't steal focus. That would be ideal. Like the way one can set bookmarks etc not to when opening in a new tab. So, a setting for it.

Re: Updates opening new tabs
Well there is nothing anyone can really do about other add-ons. But for ABL I will look into adding some form of option to disable this behavior on updates by user choice. No promises though
