Regarding FossaMail/Thunberbird

Post by JodyThornton » 2014-08-30, 19:38

Hi Folks:

I don't know where to appropriately ask this but here goes. First off, I was last a MAJOR FAN of Thunderbird up until the very last 2.x version (I think it was 2.0.0.19). I didn't like the tabbed/indexed approach from v3x thereon in.

Would it be a real labour pain to take 2x code and patch it security wise, but leave the feature set as it was back then? I really miss that mail client. I can't think of anything it did, that I couldn't do today.

That approach would require maintaining not only an obsolete comm-central codebase but it's matching mozilla-central version. We already have a whole mozilla codebase to maintain. So to answer your question .. yes.
How far are you prepared to go? How much are you prepared to risk? How many people are you prepared to sacrifice for victory?
Are you willing to die friendless, alone, deserted by everyone? Because that's what may be required of you in the war that is to come.
