The reason I ask is because I have a program called PDF XCHANGe and I'm not sure if that is loading its plugin or is what I'm seeing the default PDF Reader in Pale Moon, can someone please post a screenshot of how their PDF interface looks like *if* it was diff. than my screenshot? thanks

Without even testing, this is definitely not the built-in PDF reader (desactived by default)

Nope, that looks like a PDF plugin, probably installed by the PDF reader software you have on your system.
The PDF reader in the browser is, as Supernova stated, disabled by default, and actually looks quite different than that.

Judging by the icons, I'd say that is the PDF XChange plug-in. I use PDF XChange (but not the plug-in) and the icons are mostly the same.

Off-topic:
By the way, are you using the latest version, 2.5.309.0? Most of the icons are the same, but a few look different. Of course, the difference could be due to comparing the plug-in to the program itself.

right, but PDF Xchange didn't install any plugin into Pale Moon?! so how come it's loading? (im not complaining I'm actually happy)
do note that in the PDF X-Change options it is ticked to open PDF files in browsers but what surprises me is how that works when there is no plugin installed?

Like you know in Adobe Acrobat Pro if you don't install the plugin manually in Pale Moon you won't be able to use the Adobe PDF features in Pale Moon

I'm glad it works for PDF x-Change Editor Pro though and they support Pale Moon

The plug-in simply must be installed. There is an option for the plug-in during program installation that is automatically "checked." I uncheck that option during every install. So, on my computer the "Display PDF in Browser" option under Preferences is grayed-out and cannot be "checked."

Plugins are regularly installed at the OS level, and can be picked up automatically by any NPAPI aware browser. Pale Moon will do so when found.

If you have problems with that plugin (I avoid pdf readers' browser plugins like hell)

- you can have a look in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\MozillaPlugins and delete the string corresponding to PDF XCHANGe, if applicable and in last resort. I remember having had to proceed that way with a stubborn incorrectly installed plugin in the early ages of Firefox. With Pale Moon the Registry key remains that of MozilaPlugins. But be careful with the registry, copy/backup what you remove first, as always.

- or you might also have a look in PDF XCHANGe's install folder, some applications hide their browser add-on feature in a sub-folder of their install folder ...

NOTA : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\MozillaPlugins is for Pale Moon 64-bit, I don't remember what key exactly for 32-bit builds ...
