Advanced Status Bar Preferences

Post by ltcomdata » 2025-11-01, 03:08

Hopefully this is the right place for this question.

I do not understand what the different options in the Advanced tab of the Status Bar Preferences do.
1) What is the point of "Enable Protocol Hiding" under Firefox Compatibility, and why would I want that?
2) What is the point of "Detect full screen mode and show link/status appropriately"? I do not see any changes when I have a page in full-screen mode, whether this option is checked or not.

Firefox had this genius idea of not showing the http or https part of an URL by default, so this option is for those who want that 'feature'.
"One hosts to look them up, one DNS to find them and in the darkness BIND them."

Thank you @moonbat for your answer to 1.

As for 2: If Links are set up to Show in the status bar by default, then when the browser enters full-screen mode --- where there is no status bar --- selecting the "Detect full screen mode and show link/status appropriately" option makes the Links show up as a Pop-up instead.
