Videos (called demos) fail to play at QHub https://hub.quakeworld.nu/games/ - Update

Post by Hugo Oberstein » 2025-08-29, 18:29

Hello, I am the OP of the topic, "Videos (called demos) fail to play at QHub https://hub.quakeworld.nu/games/" (viewtopic.php?p=257386).
Specifically I am addressing, viewtopic.php?f=70&t=31834&p=259662&hilit=qhub#p259660 Where I was talking to Moonbat about another computer with issues on that website. (The topic was "Locked" so I could not post an update.)

I wanted Moonchild and others to know that I have re-tested the playing of the above mentioned video with the new Pale Moon Version 33.8.2 (32-bit) on that Windows 7 SP1 64 bit computer, and the video now plays properly.

In the recent past the best it would do is have a black screen with only player information but it did have sound. Now, the video plays but the sound in very choppy. Seemed it gained one but lost another function. At this moment having the video is what counts and I can live without the sound. (I think it will probably get fixed in the next few versions.)

I feel either that website or Pale Moon has made this improvement, with me siding on Pale Moon's developers coming through.

Thank you again to Moonchild and his developers.

Choppy sound is usually an indicator of an overloaded CPU. Check your cpu usage and if it's maxed out, then maybe try to lower your display resolution or shrink the window if browsing windowed.
WebGL can be CPU intensive if a software rasterizer is used (which can be the case more easily on older hardware and/or in Windows 7)
