Disabling Newgrounds Flash emulation

Post by Mæstro » 2025-08-28, 01:19

From time to time, I have asked before here about disabling the Internet Archive’s automatic Flash emulation, for we are compatible with the native plug-in, but not Ruffle. I would like now to ask about how to achieve the same result with Flash games hosted on Newgrounds, which likewise automatically emulates Flash. (Many games of the 00s, such as the example, are available as native SWF in the Internet Archive, yet I am curious about how to run them on the site if possible.)

check inside the xpi if it has a readme or license file.
the github page is a 404 and archive.org does not contain the repo, so no info there

There's nothing in the XPI and the page makes no mention, either.

Lacking anything to the contrary you then have to assume copyrighted/proprietary. Ask PseudoDistant for clarification.

Flash games hosted on Newgrounds
It was mentioned in another topic that Flashify had stopped working, and looking at it I see why. Here's a Modify HTTP Response filter to use the SWF directly (only tested on two games). This filter updates an earlier one which got some images working, so if you already have that one you should replace it with this one (MHR won't work with duplicate hosts).

Code: Select all

[["/newgrounds\\.com/",["/^/",["/(<svg.*?)(\\d+) (\\d+)(\"[\\s\\S]*?<image )href/g","$1$2 $3$4width=\"$2\" height=\"$3\" href","/\"url\":(\".*?)\"(.*?\"width\":(\\d+),\"height\":(\\d+).*?\"html\":)\".*?\",callback/","\"url\":$1\"$2\"<object data=\\$1\\\" width=$3 height=$4></object>\",callback"]]]]

Thank you! This works on my test link, at least when I enable JavaScript on Newgrounds.
