wordpress.com cycles CloudFlare challenge, CPU overheats
After updating to 33.6.1 from 33.6.0.1, immediately after my WP blog's dashboard finishes loading its regular elements a CloudFlare request starts cycling in the background. The statusbar displays:
Waiting for challenges.cloudflare.com -> Transferring data from challenges.cloudflare.com -> Done
and this goes on and on ad infinitum every 1 to 5 seconds approximately, heating up the CPU to about 70-72°C. System Monitor (Linux Mint 19.2 Cinnamon) shows the palemoon process eating up 25% of CPU (Intel i5 M460 dual core with hyperthreading). No other pages/tabs are open.
Downgrading to 33.6.0.1 eliminates the issue completely in the very same conditions as above.
Using Nuck-TH's SSE2 GTK3 build.

I'm not sure if you've paid attention to recent discussions on the forum but this is a known and on-going problem we're trying cloudflare to cooperate with but it's taking its sweet time.

Re: wordpress.com cycles CloudFlare challenge, CPU overheats
Yes, I have followed the CF discussion(s), but I believe this is different since it only happens in background and only with this new PM version.
Since I am already logged into WP using existing cookies, there should be no current requests for the challenge, and indeed with 33.6.0.1 and earlier versions there was no such behavior. That's what puzzles me.
Usually I have the blog dashboard always open, and you can imagine such CPU hogging bogs down the machine (a mere 2010 notebook). I'll try upgrading again and looking for any errors or messages in the console, but until this is fixed in any way I will revert back to 33.6.0.1.

We didn't make any changes re: CloudFlare this release, so unless they are sending us something else based on this version, there should not be a difference in behaviour.

Well, tried four times with 33.6.1 and couldn't reproduce it anymore. So for now I'll stick with this 33.6.1 and keep an eye on it. Unless it happens again in similar circumstances I'll call it a fluke. After all stranger things have happened. Sorry for the - for now - false alarm.

Hard for one of those to hide inside this poor notebook. Rather in some WP server(s), playing their shenanigans. But if I do find one in here I'll grab it by the ears and bring it to you for debriefing.
