Pale moon died on update.

Unread post by smithy » 2025-02-07, 15:13

Operating system: Linux Mint 22.1
Browser version: 33.6.0
64 bit:
Problem URL:
Browser theme (if not default):
Installed add-ons:
No plugins

If possible, please include the output of help->troubleshooting information (as text):

Hi
I run Pale moon on Linux mint 22.1.
I applied the latest update and pressed Restart.
Unfortunately Pale moon didn't restart and refuses to start even after a reboot.
No shortcuts work, and clicking on the Pale moon binary in the folder where it resides fails to work as well.
Not much more info I can add really..

Update:
Did a fresh install of 33.6, and Pale moon started, but
copying my backup profile (ie, the hidden Palemoon folder) failed to work..:(

Update 2
Restored my profile from a secondary backup and everything is as it should be.
If its any help the update dialog box that should have appeared on restart, only occured once my backup profile was copied in..
Problem solved thank goodness.
20 minutes using Librewolf was more than enough :)
It is common to think of our own time as standing at the apex of civilisation from which the deficiencies of preceding ages may patronisingly be viewed in the light of what is assumed to be progress. The reality is that in the long perspective of history the present century will not hold an enviable position unless the second half is to redeem its first.

FWIW

I also have two SSD's running 64 bit linux Pale Moon 33.6.0 (GTK2) running in a fresh install of 64 bit linux Mint 22.1 (Xia) Xfce and both new 33.6.0 Pale Moon versions run "as smooth as silk" without any problems what so ever.

As for my 64 bit linux browsers, I have have three of them at the moment and they are:

1) Pale Moon (Default)
2) Waterfox (Main Backup Browser)
3) Firefox (Secondary Backup Browser)
Linux Mint 22.1 (Xia) Xfce w/Pale Moon, Waterfox, Firefox
MX Linux 23.6 (Libretto) Xfce w/Pale Moon, Waterfox, Firefox
Linux Debian 12.11 (Bookworm) Xfce w/Pale Moon, Waterfox, Firefox

(Secondary Backup Browser)
Off-topic:
^^^ Lol!! I like it, I like it.....

Modern FF is miles better than it used to be, but I have bad memories of multiple daily freezes & crashes back in the mid-noughties after I switched away from Internet Exploder under XP. It's coloured my perception of it ever since.

TBH, if there hadn't been so much argument and back-stabbing amongst the Mozilla team, it could have improved way sooner than it did.
