Please go back to the source code page, and re-read the text there with more attention.
You'll see the source code tarballs are only for a limited number of versions. Our main source code releases can be got by using the repository. All releases are tagged there.

If you really need a source code tarball for a newer version for some reason, though, I do actually know how they were created and could probably make one for you, personally, upon request of a specific version, if you really need one and can't use git to obtain the source for some reason. Officially, though, we aren't doing that with each release anymore, because they served their purpose and the approach of doing closed development was shown to be unsustainable, and we had to once again embrace a public git repo.

git is fine, it was just a question if that was intended or an old relict.
