Firefox Sync and "sync now"

Post by Ken10 » 2013-02-21, 17:01

I’m not sure if this got submitted the first time.
Hi. I am trying to use Firefox Sync with Pale Moon.
I have set it up with Firefox.
When I go to Pale Moon Tools menu, I expect to find Set Up Sync.
It just says "sync now" instead.
I can’t find anywhere what "sync now" does, and it doesn’t seem to do anything.
I’m using Windows XP SP 3, Pale Moon 15.4.1, Firefox 18.0.2.
In brief, the active Pale Moon plugins are
Acrobat, Google, Java, DRM, Quicktime, Flah, WMP, WPF.
Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the forum (after some trials and tribulations)! :) Sync isn't a Pale Moon feature I use.... so only a recent Mozilla Support (SUMO) Q&A to suggest: "....sync on windows 7 can't find setup only sync now" (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/quest ... w&r=3&as=s) SUMO moderator's answer is just to navigate to the Sync tab in the Options menu via: Tools > Options > Sync .... which seems a rather unlikely instant fix? His answer does contain SUMO's Sync tutorial link and onward to Sync troubleshooting and tips though!

Sync tab in the Options menu via: Tools > Options > Sync ....
Yes, that’s it, well done, thanks.
It’s a pity Google didn’t find that, or rather, I couldn’t find it in the results if it was there.

"Sync Now" is present if you have previously set up Firefox Sync, and pressing it will do a synchronization in the background. If you have migrated your Firefox profile to Pale Moon, this may possibly have set the state to it being "set up" while it isn't yet in your Pale Moon profile. Third-party services (and some extensions) may not always work well with the migration tool's result. If you are going to use sync, it's recommended to not use the Pale Moon migration tool, but to use Firefox Sync instead to get the initial profile set up.

I didn’t use the Pale Moon migration tool, I copied the files across from the Firefox directory.

Just copying files across may not work for everything, either ;)
