What's "Decentraleyes"?

Post by Abdulrhman Ayman » 2018-08-16, 15:54

I found an add-on for Palemoon called Decentraleyes, could someone please explain to me in plain English what does this add-on do? I'm interstead in privacy but I couldn't understand the description.

It intercepts requests to big corp. CDNs and delivers the content (which comes bundled with the extension) locally instead.
No configuration is required (if Decentraleyes is unable to deliver the content, it will be fetched normally).
Even for users that don't care about privacy, this will still speed up their browsing experience a tiny bit.
It's an excellent companion to adblockers!

You'll find an article on Decentraleyes @ gHacks here:

I am not an expert, but the author has a short post about it on Reddit if that helps.

Thanks guys, but what about CDNs that are not blocked in this extension? is the developer actively working on supporting new ones? And, assuming that I have HTTPS Everywhere + an add-blocker installed besides Decentraleyes, would the 3 of 'em fight each other?

Tomaso, are you the developer of this add-on?

Like I've already pointed out; if Decentraleyes is unable to deliver the content, it will be fetched normally.
If you prefer to block unsupported content, you may do so by checking the following option:

Code: Select all

'Decentraleyes' > 'Options' > "Block requests for missing resources"
However, I wouldn't recommend doing this, as if will flat out break some pages!

You'll find the changelog here:
https://git.synz.io/Synzvato/decentraleyes/tags/
As you can see, the latest releases adds support for a Chinese CDN.
All supported CDNs are listed on Pale Moon's addon page here:
https://addons.palemoon.org/addon/decentraleyes/

This has been taken into consideration, and Decentraleyes is designed to work in conjunction with other privacy extensions.

No.

If you're wondering about anything else, regarding Decentraleyes, then check out the Wiki here first:

..and post any further questions in the Decentraleyes thread (which the author checks in on from time to time):
