HTML5 canvas image data

Post by Phantom » 2018-03-06, 14:20

I was using the Tor browser and noticed this message.

Why doesn't Pale Moon have a message like that? Is this website putting HTML5 garbage on my computer and if I were to allow it, where would this data be stored?

Thanks.

How far are you prepared to go? How much are you prepared to risk? How many people are you prepared to sacrifice for victory?
Are you willing to die friendless, alone, deserted by everyone? Because that's what may be required of you in the war that is to come.

TL;DR, if I understand correctly: What Tor does (returning blank image data) has the potential to break some stuff (although I've never noticed it happening), and Pale Moon already makes the data harder to use to identify you anyway, so Tor's method will not be implemented.

What tor does is breaking the web and annoying users with extra messages instead of using smart, transparent ways of stopping tracking, like poisoning the data making it impossible for the trackers to know if it is actually a unique fingerprint or not.

No, we won't be disabling web features because they *can* be abused. Do that and you'll end up with a pointless race to disable more and more until your browsing is a lame excuse of web usage.
