Installing newer versions of uBlock Origin

Post by JoeyG » 2017-10-25, 21:32

According to the Firefox Add-ons repository, versions of uBlock Origin after 1.13.8 are incompatible with PM 27.5.1.

Somehow, though, I installed uBlock Origin 1.14.14 on Pale Moon 27.5.1 on my main computer. It appears to work fine.

Don't laugh, but I have no recollection of doing it, or rather, I don't remember using any special "tricks" to install it.

I did it on 23 Oct, which I know it was just two days ago, but that's the day my home-office was painted. I was working with my desk pushed into the middle of the room (it's usually against the wall), and I had two painters walking around and talking - which I guess distracted me.

Can anyone figure out how I did it?

The reason I'm asking is that when I try to install it "normally" on one of my other machines, I'm told the xpi file is corrupt.

Just for the record, I was able to install it on my laptop by simply copying the extension's folder from my desktop to the laptop  .

That's odd, then. The one in the Firefox website is officially WebExtensions so it won't install on Pale Moon, but you can go to the uBlock Github and install the one that supports Pale Moon and pre-57 Firefox manually, or use our uBlock Updater developed by JustOff.

uBo's listing on APMO was updated to point to the latest stable "legacy" release on github (currently 1.14.16).

You must have navigated there somehow, then forgot about it. :)

The uBlock Origin Updater is here. https://addons.palemoon.org/addon/ublock0-updater/
It allows for automatic updating, so very helpful.

(If you prefer to keep managing it manually, just remember the files you need are those labeled uBlock0.firefox.xpi - not the files labeled uBlock0.webext.xpi)
