Sound but no video after adobe flash player instal

Post by Gnaxx » 2017-08-10, 22:10

Hi !
So, I installed a clean version of Pale Moon 27.4.1 (32bits) on my newly installed Win7 64 bits. I restored my old profile (see here : viewtopic.php?f=3&t=16305&p=119152#p119152 ), and everything run well.
Before this installation, I was having an issue with the same version of PM on my older hdd : dailymotion videos were only playing sound, and no image. I think I may have found why.

I wanted to watch http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5qtgq ... videogames to test : play perfectly, with the interface inside the video (pause button, change resolution..). Dailymotion ok.
I wanted to watch http://www.francetvinfo.fr/replay-jt/fr ... 12559.html : it says I must get adobe flash player. I got it, installed it. I try again, it plays the video.
I go back to the dailymotion link : sound but no image (and no interface). Dailymotion not ok anymore.
I tried to disable totally the plugin adobe flash (= "never activate") : dailymotion works again ! But not francetvinfo this time (it tells me to get adobe flash).

So... is this a common issue ? Can I do something to solve that without having to totally disable adobe flash for seeing videos on dailymotion ?
Thanks in advance for any help :)

DailyMotion indeed prefers Flash video for Pale Moon, but I have no problem playing that video with Flash installed and enabled.
Does anyone else have trouble there? Does it play in your "new" profile that was created with the installation of pale moon?

I'm trying right now, but btw, is there aan easier way to switch from one profile to another than editing the file "profiles.ini" ?
Edit: I just tried with the default untouched profile which was created with the new installation of Pale Moon : same issue.
(and I fixed the francetv link in my op)

Both links work fine for me with flashplayer set to "Ask to Activate"
Win 7 x64
Pm x86 27.4.1

Newest version of flashplayer installed this morning.

I installed what should be the latest version : 26.0.0.51.
If I put on "ask to activate", I have the issues too.
When adobe flash is active, on dailymotion,on the area where the video should play, I only have black and no video interface if I hover the mouse, and I can't right-click on it too (I didn't precised it in my OP).

Both videos play for me without any problems. I'm using 64 bit linux Pale Moon (27.4.1). Flash version is linux (26.0.0.151).

Now this is very strange. I opened both links using latest "Adobe Flash 26.0.0.151", at the same time, and both links automatically started playing even though flash is set to "Ask to Activate". This doesn't happen if I open one at a time, then I get a "Activate Flash" prompt. Hey go figure?

You should use the profile manager. Start Pale Moon with the command-line option "-p" and make sure you tell the manager to ask which profile to use (UNcheck "use the selected profile without asking...")

Well I tried portable versions 32bit & 64bit, same issue.
Oh, and I tried.. Internet Explorer (argh). On the francetv : it asks me to get adobe flash player despite it being already installed !? I'm trying Firefox right now.

Okay I take note, thanks :)

Edit : Okay, and with Firefox, everything works perfectly fine with adobe flashplayer.

Both videos work (both video and audio) for me using Pale Moon 27.4.1 in Windows 7 without needing to change anything other than allow the numerous requests for each of the two sites (FWIW, I have my HTML5 Media Tuner extension set to "HTML5 + MSE" default mode for these two sites).

Flash for Internet Explorer is different from Flash for other browsers. So you need to install it separately.

I did some tests. I set adobe flash in "ask to activate" to see what happens, and installed HTML5 Media Tuner. The issues are still here on dailymotion, and I tried the 3 options in HTML5 Media Tuner (each time closing PM and opening it again). Each time it asks me to activate flash player, and when I acitvated it : black with only sound.
It seems that I have a specific issue between the adobe player and dailymotion. Maybe using something to block the flash video and instead getting html5 ones ? (I'm badly explaining, but I'm not sure I understood perfectly this things :P)

FWIW, I have Adobe Flash set to "Always activate" and my version is 26.0.0.131.... Is your computer older? Is so, perhaps you could check to see if it might help to update your video card drivers....

Okay, I am able to reproduce the problem you are having (no video, just sound) by leaving all my extensions enabled (I think it is my Bluhell Firewall that interferes - but not totally certain, but this is not important). At that point even with the add-on disabled the video still does not work until I clear cookies on the site.

So I would suggest that you try two things:

1) Clear cookies for this website and then test website to see if this helps.

If that doesn't help....

2) Clear cookies again for this website and then test the site using Pale Moon in safe-mode ("Help" > "Restart with Add-ons Disabled...", click on "Continue in Safe Mode" button). If the website works then it would presumably be a Pale Moon extension causing the problem that doesn't get fixed when add-ons are disabled until the cookies for this website are cleared.

FYI - One way to clear just the cookies on this website (make sure you are on the dailymotion.com website):
Click on circled "d" icon for the dailymotion.com website then click on the "More Information..." button

^ Follow-up: If all of the above still does not help try looking into your Adobe Flash player "hardware acceleration" setting (You could be having compatibility issues involving older hardware and/or drivers. This should eliminate hardware and/or driver compatibility problems with the Flash Player which then uses software to scale and display the content).

Right-click on the video and select "Settings":

If "hardware acceleration" is enabled (checked) then try disabling this setting to see if this helps:

And unfortunately.. I tried everything you suggested, nothing worked. Same for the flash player setting. By the way, on dailymotion, remember I can't even right-click on the video, as if the flash player wasn't properly detected : I had to go in the francetv video to be able to right-click and see flash options.
But thank you very much for trying to help me :)

Have you tried a "clean" uninstall of ALL aspects of flash player and then re-install?

Completely "clean" uninstall Solution (following each step [linked] precisely):
1. Download the uninstaller for Flash Player.
2. Exit all browsers and other programs that use Flash.
3. Run the uninstaller.
4. Verify that uninstall is complete and re-install (included in this link).

Note: explicitly following each step should provide a clean install and avoid any file corruption issues.

Pale Moon Rising wrote:Have you tried a "clean" uninstall of ALL aspects of flash player and then re-install?
Well, I was on a clean install of Win7, and the player was the first version I installed... But still, I tried to follow your instructions : nothing change ^^" (but again, thanks for helping :))
When I go on this page to check my flash player status : https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html , everything is ok !

I made several tests. It seems that it's videos in this kind of links which don't work : http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5vr188
But the video automatically shown on a playlist plays perfectly well : http://www.dailymotion.com/playlist/x4n5zt_Gamekult_gk-live-saison-2016-2017/1#video=x4vat1r

So, I took the "number" of the video who isn't working in this example ("x5vr188"), and replaced the numbers of the video playing correctly as presentation of the playlist (in the second link) which gives me that link :
http://www.dailymotion.com/playlist/x5vr188_Gamekult_gk-live-saison-2016-2017/1#video=x5vr188
And it's "working" : I have sound and image, but the video player has the size of the presentation video of the second link. But I have access to the controls normally : changing definition, switch to fullscreen...
I don't understand at all why it's only when the video is "alone" in the page that it doesn't work.
