If you seriously want/need a VPN, free is not the way to go, imo. Unlike most free browsers which will actually cost you your privacy in the long run, security and privacy issues should be of enough concern that one is willing to pay some amount for good protection. If you are not, then why bother. Would you only have locks on half the doors and windows in your home?
I have reached that stage in life where the difference in cost between 5 and 10 dollars a month for something is not a material concern. I will happily pay the higher amount for a superior product. I have a rule of thumb for such situations: "Something is usually worth what you pay for it."
Have you heard about the bar that has this sign in the window- Free Beer Tomorrow. Just ask for that free beer and they tell you to come back tomorrow.........
