Weird bug in flash game.

Post by DatHoax » 2016-12-11, 21:06

So I'm playing this flash game that uses the game servers to process everything, but I ran into an issue two days ago; the server keeps disconnecting me when I do two specific things, but only those two specific things. Everything else runs fine without any issues, only when I do those two specific things it disconnects me. The actions do go through to the server, since the results are there in my game when I reload the page. It's just that I keep getting the disconnect every time I do them.

Computer info:
Operating system: Windows 7 Professional SP1
Browser version: 27.0.2
32-bit or 64-bit?: 64-bit

Things I've already tried:
- Using Firefox: I tried doing the two things in the game on Firefox and that just worked fine, the server didn't disconnect me and I could just keep playing. I also installed the same addons on Firefox as I had on Pale Moon, in case those were causing the issue. But everything worked fine, so I doubt it's anything with my account for the game or the game itself.
- Checking for profile corruption: I did this on 27.0.2, also cleared my cache and put the cache limit on 200MB, but the issue was still there.
- Rolling back: I rolled back to 26.5.0, cleared my cache and reset my profile. After doing this it still disconnected me.
- Trying another system: I installed Pale Moon 27.0.2 on another system in 32-bit, but the issue still persisted. That system also ran on Windows 7 Professional SP1. I even had to install the newest version of flash, so I doubt it has anything to do with an incompatible version of flash either.
- Disabling addons: It still persisted after disabling them.

Now I know, it's just a game so it's not that big of a deal. But I'd love to keep playing the game properly without having to reload the page every time I do those things on Pale Moon. And I'm kind of curious on what's causing this. The console doesn't really give me anything either, and I wouldn't know how else to find out why it disconnects me.
Anyone any ideas or noticed any oddities with flash lately? Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Welcome to the forum.

What version of Flash are you using? Also, could you post a URL so that other people can try testing it?

EDIT: I see you said you installed the most recent version. Please verify the version number. Some people have reported that the newer versions of Flash are less than stable and they've had to roll back to an ESR version to resolve their problems.

I have Flash version 23.0.0.185 on Pale Moon, where it didn't work, and also on Firefox where it did work on this system. The Flash version on Pale Moon on the other system 23.0.0.207, but it didn't work there either.

As for the game URL, well it's Kancolle, which requires a lengthy registration process. It also takes quite the work in-game to replicate the second situation where it disconnects me, hence I wanted to keep it generalized to not bother people with all that. That's also why I asked for another potential way to monitor what's going on, since unless you play it you can't really replicate it.

I would suggest that you made a custom User Agent for that site, just in case that the flash game pass the UA to the validation scripts and hence disconnects you when see a "non firefox" browser.

My User Agent setting in my Pale Moon has been set to "Firefox Compatibility" this entire time, but it might be worth a shot. How exactly would I do this though?
I looked at the custom User Agents that were in the about:config by default, but I'm not sure at all what I should put as value for this site. Never done this before, really.

Note:Please change the goofy name for the correct name of the site

1. in about:config search for the word useragent.override
2. Press right button and add a NEW > STRING key
3. As NAME put general.useragent.override.mygamesite.com
4. As VALUE use the same of sites like gaming.facebook / youtube / facebook, or even the same user agent of firefox
5. When done it saves automatically, reset Pale Moon and check if works.

I ended up not having to change the User Agent, the problem fixed itself today somehow.
After I logged in today I made another desperate attempt at one of the two things, but to my surprise I could just keep playing. Same goes for when I tried to do the second thing.
At this point I'm thinking it might have been something server side, I'm not sure
Either way, it's fixed, but thanks for trying to assist me anyway.
