Redirector plugin compatibility

Post by Martin333 » 2016-10-20, 20:58

I am running the latest PM version 26.5.0 (x86) and have been quite happy with it for the past few years, having installed almost all add-ons I have wanted.

Recently, when I tried to install https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... edirector/ , I am unable to do it.

The plugin page says 'Not available for Firefox 24.9'. So, I have installed an earlier version 3.0.6 from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... /versions/ , and changed the Max version in the rdf file. But, I do not see any Icon to use the plugin.

When I click its Options button at about:addons, I am taken to resource://redirector-at-einaregilsson-dot-com/redirector.html but that page is blank.

Quote:
=================
To add a new redirect, right click either anywhere on a page and click 'Add current url to Redirector' or right click on a link and click 'Add link url to Redirector'. You can also add urls from Tools->Redirector->Add... but then you won't get the example url filled in.

To edit and delete redirects, goto Tools->Redirector, or choose Options on the Addons window.

To disable Redirector temporarily, click on the R that's in your statusbar or press alt+r. Right clicking the icon opens the Redirector options window.
=================

But I do not see any option in the right click menu. Also, I do not see any option under Tools menu or in the status bar.

The latest version 3.1.0 says "No functional changes, only moving the addon to the new WebExtensions API." , but I don't yet know how to tweak it to be compatible with PM 26.5.0 .

I generally use a dark theme for PM, and after reading a hint at https://github.com/einaregilsson/Redirector , I changed my theme to the default, but still I don't see any icon for the plugin anywhere in my browser.

Although I don't use Google Chrome often, I tested it for this purpose, and the plugin installed from https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta ... dlknciafen works fine in Chrome.

Since I really need to use the Redirector plugin extensively in my work, I am helpless here, and I don't want to switch to Chrome just for this purpose.

I also tried to look into any alternative for the Redirector plugin for use with PM, but am unable to come across one.

Can any experienced member here help me out in this situation? Either making it work in PM, or any good alternative would serve my purpose.

Thanks in advance.

And many thanks for the Developers of Palemoon from a contended user. :thumbup:

You could try Redirector v2.9.3 which claims compatibility with FF 17.0 and later. (Version 3.0.6 only claims to work with FF 44 and later.)

Wow! Fantastic.

Thank You, coffeebreak, for the suggestion - within a very short time.

I installed v2.9.3 as per your suggestion, and it works ok.

I had always thought of installing the latest possible version, but never bothered about looking into further details of compatibility - due to my ignorance.

Thanks again for the good catch. You have made my life easier. :thumbup:
