Date added - Name/Link - Description

#3# List of Add-Ons being dismissed - (Top, Table of contents, 1, 2, 3, 4)
Date added - Name/Link - Description - Reason
2012.06.06 - Any add-on that specifically promotes one particular software/service vendor over another where there is already a clear and free choice of different vendors available (e.g. search engine add-ons, pdf viewers).
2012.02.27 - Firefox Throttle (AMO) - It adds a transfer rate display in the status bar (as in the old times), so you know when the router is downloading and how much. You can also see the total session Up/Down load and limit transfer rates (e.g. for shared networks) - Does not work on current versions.
2012.02.27 - Preserve Download Modification Timestamp / en-US (preferred, yet directlink-only) - With this addons your downloads will have the original timestamps. - There is no reason to preserve the server date/time, and it's buggy (see other thread about this)
2012.02.27 - Is It Compatible (AMO) - Check compatibility with this addon prior to the update. - Unnecessary, Fails to answer question if it's really compatible.
2012.02.27 - DownloadHelper (AMO) - Gain access to download media content on the webpage. - Potentially breaks copyright laws.
2011.09.03 - WOT / en-US (AMO) - WOT shows you which websites are trustworthy based on millions of users' experiences. - They delete and add comments as they like to, also it's a security risk! You might want to test YouNeed – Content indicator
2011.09.03 - Targeted Advertising Cookie Opt-Out (TACO) (AMO) - Stops behavioral advertising by over 120 different companies who quietly track you as you surf. - Generates opt-out-cookies that are tracked by the advertisers.
2011.09.03 - Ghostery (AMO) - Protect your privacy. See who's tracking your web browsing and block them with Ghostery. - Not trustworthy after being sold and causes a lot of browsing issues in Pale Moon
2011.09.01 - TrackerWatcher (AMO) - Shows you if any (3rd party) website is collecting information about you - too many bad reviews, doesn't work half the time
2011.09.01 - Torbutton (AMO) - De-/activates TOR and other in-/compatible add-ons - NOT something you can use by itself, it even has been removed on official TOR distributions
2011.09.01 - FireFound (AMO) - locates your computer if you lose it and protects your private data from identity theft. - This is a security risk!
2012.02.27 - Hide Find Bar (AMO) - What this does is auto close the Find Bar after a given amount of seconds. - Buggy, Unnecessary to automate this function.
2012.02.27 - Status-4-evar (AMO) - Same as Pale Moon Status Bar functionality. - This add-on directly conflicts with Pale Moon.
2012.06.06 - HTTPS everywhere & HTTPS finder - Known to break browsing to a good number of sites in Pale Moon. Only works on sites that specifically support this, but then again, those sites also usually support simply using https:// as a protocol.

#4# Requirements/Process for posting new Add-On recommendations - (Top, Table of contents, 1, 2, 3, 4)
- You should have already used it, hearing/reading some Add-on might be good is not enough unless you want to recommend it for the dismissed list to warn other users (make a comment to explain)!
- Mainly just reviewed Add-Ons. If it has not been, but you still feel it is good, mark it as "experimental" or "preliminarily reviewed" in the "known problems" field!

So how should you post a recommendation?

Here is an example (* is required to fill in):
*Link: en-US (preferred, yet directlink-only): https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865/, (Other languages: de)
*Name: Adblock Plus
*Category: Add-On\Privacy & Security (so this one, it could be Personas too f.e.)
*Short Description: Adblock Plus allows you to regain control of the internet and view the web the way you want to. The Add-on is supported by over forty filter subscriptions in dozens of languages which automatically configure it for purposes ranging from removing online advertising to blocking all known malware domains. Adblock Plus also allows you to customize your filters with the assistance of a variety of useful features, including a context option for images, a block tab for Flash and Java objects, and a list of blockable items to remove scripts and style-sheets.
Valid for: Firefox based builds 3.5.*-6.* and 7-9 with developer builds (acc to: http://adblockplus.org/de/requirements)
Recommended configuration: I would recommend at least "Easy Privacy+EasyList" cause i don't want to be tracked or get annoying pop-ups. Advertising in general is nothing bad and remember that it is mostly the only way to provide free services! (Note: please consider [this post] when you install it f.e.)
Known problems: none
Personal comment: One of the most used Add-Ons which you don't want to miss and useful together with NoScript and Request Policy for secure browsing!
Here you have the clean code for posting:

Code: Select all

This design is important for ease of evaluation and categorizing.
If you have a suggestion for an add-on you use but do not know all of the information required feel free to discuss the add-on over in the Add-ons Discussion thread first. Others in the community may be able to help you out.
Adhere to the specifications or else you will be warned and your post may be deleted or removed!
You can add more than one recommendation per post.
The staff will decide if an add-on should be added or not, but be open with your suggestions. We want to know what you use to enhance your browsing experience!

*Link: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... lashblock/
*Name: FlashBlock

*Category: Add-On\Privacy & Security

*Short Description: Flashblock is an extension for Firefox-based browsers that blocks ALL Flash content from loading. It then leaves placeholders on the webpage that allow you to click to download and then view the Flash content.

Valid for: Latest versions of Firefox, Pale Moon, Chrome, and other Firefox-based browsers

Recommended configuration: Block Silverlight, have 'show placeholders' enabled

Known problems: Some websites use Flash to function properly and browsing will be impaired unless an exception is added in the FlashBlock options; Disabling JavaScript will prevent Flashblock from working properly, including via the NoScript addon

Personal comment: Not sure why this one hasn't already been mentioned here, very useful.

An Add-on Extension that I consider necessary with Pale Moon:
*Link: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... lock_lite/

*Name: Adblocklite.

*Category: Add-On\Privacy & Security.

*Short Description: Adblocklite is a fork of the Adblock Plus version 1.3.10 (classic UI) extension for blocking advertisements on the web.
Developer, adstomper, says that "Adblock Lite was created to support and backport features of ABP but with the older user interface and of course without "surprises" and is currently researching ways to bypass most anti-adblock scripts and if feasible implement them in this add-on."

Valid for: Works with Firefox 3.6.13 and later, Mobile 4.0 and later, SeaMonkey 2.1 and later, Thunderbird 3.1.7 and later.
I have been using v1.4.2 since late March with Pale Moon and have just updated to v1.4.3 from developers' web site without issues so far with Pale Moon v12.2.1 x64.

Recommended configuration: User has their own choice for subscription lists that ABP has and with no need to change from default "opt-in" to the "opt-out" from the "acceptable ads" white-listing as is currently in-force with ABP.

Known problems: None at this time

*Link: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... /nosquint/
Name: NoSquint
Category: Add-On\Appearance
Short description: NoSquint allows you to adjust the text-only and full-page (both text and images) zoom levels as well as color settings both globally (for all sites) and per site.
Valid for: Firefox 3.0 - 17 - no issues with Pale Moon 15
Recommended configuration: I've set most sites to a global 110% zoom level but it's up to everyone's specific needs.
Known problems: None - be aware that some websites might not show properly with high zoom levels (not extension-related)
Personal comment: useful for those who need Pale Moon to remember various zoom levels, for more comfortable viewing.

*Link: https://lastpass.com/download/cdn/lp_win.xpi [Newest Version, Link on Firefox Extensions is quite old...]
*Name: LastPass Password Manager.
*Category: Password Managers
*Short Description: LastPass is a free online password manager and Form Filler that makes your web browsing easier and more secure. Also for IE, Safari and Chrome. Your sensitive data is encrypted _locally_ before upload so even LastPass cannot get access to it.
Valid for: Firefox 2.0+ [see https://lastpass.com/misc_download.php, then click the 'Windows' tab thing, you'll see.]
Recommended configuration: Make an account, import any and all data, use it as the default password manager and also you can set up auto-registration profiles!
Known problems: AutoLogin doesn't seem to work correctly on Tumblr or some other sites (dunno why) but not a big deal all in all.

*Link: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... lock-edge/
*Name: Adblock Edge
*Category: Add-On/Security & Privacy
*Short Description: Adblock Edge is a fork of the Adblock Plus version 2.1.2 extension for blocking advertisements on the web. This fork will provide the same features as Adblock Plus 2.X and higher but without "acceptable ads" feature.
Valid for: Firefox 10.0 and later, Pale Moon 24
Recommended configuration: Easylist + Easyprivacy
Known problems:
Personal comment: Though you can disable the acceptable ads in ABP, I wasn't comfortable with them enabled by default nor the industry behind them.
*Link: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... idehelper/
*Name: Add-On/Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus
*Category: Security & Privacy
*Short Description: Fight the text ads! Element Hiding Helper is a companion extension for Adblock Plus meant to make creating element hiding rules easier. You simply select the element you want to be hidden and then choose which attributes of this element should be taken into account when hiding it in future. The element hiding rule is generated and added automatically.
Valid for: Firefox 8.0 and later, Pale Moon 24
Recommended configuration:
Known problems:
Personal comment: I've found this particularly useful against "anti-adblock" frames.
*Link: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... at/?src=ss
*Name: Mozilla Archive Format
*Category: Download Management
*Short Description: Open web pages saved with Internet Explorer or other browsers (MHT). Save many tabs, video and audio reliably, in a single ZIP file (MAFF). Return to the original site you saved a page from, and more!
Valid for: Firefox 10.0 and later, Pale Moon 24
Recommended configuration: Exact snapshot, Title of the page
Known problems:
Personal comment: If you like to keep offline records this one is up to the task. You can also save multiple tabs in one file.
*Link: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... ow/?src=ss
*Name: Youtube Video and Audio Downloader
*Category: Download Management
*Short Description: Youtube Video and Audio Downloader is an open-source project, downloading Youtube videos (using Firefox download manager or a custom external download manager) in all available formats (FLV, MP4, WebM, and 3GP) with video quality of your choice. It also contains a pure JavaScript library to extract the original audio file out of FLV videos. For other formats, MP3 conversion is possible if FFmpeg is install. It also shipped with an offline tool to extract audio files out of FLV videos.
Valid for: Firefox 23.0 and later, Pale Moon 24
Recommended configuration:
Known problems: Initially there were issues with Pale Moon 24.0.1, but 0.3.0 fixed these and added support for Pale Moon.

*Link: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... unloadtab/
*Name: UnloadTab
*Category: Memory
*Short Description: Unload inactive tabs, save resources.
Valid for: Firefox 27.0.1
Recommended configuration: Set tabs to automatically unload after a set amount of time, with the ability to "lock" some tabs so that they never unload
Known problems: Not compatible with all add-ons due to the abstract nature of tab unloading.

"unloadtab" is not available for Pale Moon. It really doesn't serve any purpose suggesting add-ons that are incompatible with the browser.

Alternative for UnloadTab is BarTab Heavy,
*Link: https://addons.mozilla.org/addon/bartab-heavy
*Name: BarTab Heavy
*Category: Tabs
*Short Description: Unload tabs and put them on your 'bar tab' to conserve system resources. (latest fork of the original BarTab)
Valid for: 4.0b1 and later
Recommended configuration: Set a time interval after inactive tab will be unloaded.
Known problems: "Git" version, still in development with bugs, that can e.g. cause losing the current session.
Personal comment: Saves resources if you are heavy multi tab user. I haven't encountered any bugs.

Doing a Ctrl+F search didn't bring this up, so I'll...bring it up. ;)

Greasemonkey - Helpful for tweaking how websites are viewed. Once you've installed it, you can then apply tons of scripts for modifying the look of websites and other such things. I especially find these useful for whenever YouTube makes a boneheaded website redesign. This script, for example, brings back the grid view in my subscriptions.

Be aware though, that userscripts.org is in a disastrous state! There are tons of malware scripts, (mostly trying to steal your FB accounts). Scripts are hard to identify as malware if you don't know JS, (and even otherwise, because the @require and code obfuscations..) . Existing names of very popular scripts are copied and posted as malware under the same name. Even user reviews are now faked and botted, so these scripts are now shown on the front page. Forums are spammed to death too. This site completely lacks all moderation, and is heavily malware infested. It would be better to see that site shut down if that state continues.
