Please add option to delete account

Post by ari5_96 » 2016-05-09, 12:54

There appears to be no obvious way for a user to delete his/her account on this forum.
I've just read the rules at https://forum.palemoon.org/app.php/rules and they mention that you purge old accounts occasionally, for a variety of sensible reasons - so why not allow the users to delete their own account if they don't intend to use it again?

Easy way to delete accounts leads to the following:
  • Troll or spammer creates account.
  • Trolls or spams.
  • Deletes account.
  • Rinse and repeat, since a deleted account will have no record of the user's credentials.

If you dislike a forum you have joined, then vote with your feet and walk away.

Anybody who believes that anything they type which uses the internet will then vanish should not be posting, texting, emailing etc. at all. Even if you could delete your account, that would not delete the information. If you have never heard of it, visit https://archive.org/web/ this is one example. The Wayback Machine allows one to view "484 billion web pages saved over time." For example, I was able to view this forum as it was on September 2011 https://web.archive.org/web/20110924092906/http://forum.palemoon.org/
This includes reading posts and threads that existed on that date.
