This is true, but IIRC it only affects the "main" section of the repositories - so it is only helpful for a small amount of installations, because other parts won't be updated.

Why don't you just upgrade your operating system?

Ubuntu Pro is intended for companies that need long support to avoid painful migrations - normal end users should be fine by just upgrading their OS.

There won't be updates for any software in repositories for this version. Planned obsolescence or not, but i wouldn't use system without security updates to go outside of local network(and even that can be unsafe in some cases).

Nobody will ever scare me into living in fear now, with Linux. And just as I won't move house because it's out of trend and won't murder my mother because she's "obsolete" I also won't switch operating systems just because somebody says so.

Of course. Only problem is when google - or other - idiots invent some new "standards", the whole world follows suit, and then old Pale Moon fails to rise up. That has always been the game.

Yes, I know that is a possibility, or at least will be for a while, but technical difficulties, and lack of deep knowledge of the code and environment prevent me from even trying.
So far I've used the official "portable" builds - the Gtk3 tar archives - and that's been just fine; hopefully they will still work for a while. Steve's build has been installed as some kind of a stable fallback just in case, and was always left a version or two behind.

It's all the same scenario again, with Win9x users complaining, then XP users complaining, then... Some people try to keep a stable environment that just works for them, without needing the "latest and greatest" gimmicks, and that becomes impossible once standards change, toolchain gets more or less forcibly upgraded, and so on. World has no rest while some of us are just so tired of running...

Anyway, it is as it is. Just wanted to provide a personal opinion on the matter for the record. All the best, enjoy the week-end.

If a wizard cursed me and told me that I must use XP from now on, my computer habits would scarcely change. Some software would be swapped for others (notably, this browser for Roytam’s build and Mypal 68 for Epiphany/Konqueror as backup), but everything I need runs in XP or has an equivalent. If this magical spell were instead to fix me to Windows 7, I could even run Genshin Impact. The only real hazards come from malware, for which I should hope routing all traffic through a Linux machine would be enough and not incur the sorcerer’s wrath, and Google releasing more half-standards for sites to adopt, breaking them because web developers cannot leave good enough alone.

I migrated from Windows to Linux Mint 21.1 and I am happy. Unlike Windows forcing various privacy invasions and obsolescence Linux Mint seems to be user oriented. What don't you like about newer versions of Linux Mint?

I cannot answer for Drugwash, but I am staying on Debian 10, which should still get security upgrades through (E)LTS until 2029, for two reasons beside inertia. The first is that I use Gajim (v1·1·2) as my primary IM client, but Debian 11+ include in their repositories a later version with a hideous interface meant to ape Discord. The other is that Debian 12+ use a version of Glibc that would break Flash on this computer. I have not yet decided what to do at decade’s end.

Does this mean you will not provide 32-bit Palemoon for Bionic any more?

I reported elsewhere that the 32-bit version of PM 32.1.0 will not let me log into Paypal with a password typed on my laptop, just with a code sent to a cell phone. The login screen is also different from the 64-bit one, which my 32-bit laptop cannot install. Maestro steered me here.

Using Debian may be an option in order to keep x86_32 support as Debian 10 (the equivalent to Ubuntu 18.04) will be still supported.

I'll try and provide 32-bit for Bionic as long as it doesn't become too time-consuming, but so far it's Bionic amd64 that needs special treatment on that release, not 32.

The OBS still supports Ubuntu back to 14.04, but of course Pale Moon needs a minimum of gcc-7.1, not available in its repos. 18.04 has 7.4, but 64-bit fails with that, and needs to use gcc-8 from its repos.

I've been tied up helping a friend send stuff to lawyers and a court over helping his aged mother; getting text messages and videos off a phone and into PDFs, etc. I'm trying to concentrate on PM builds again today--some have failed on the OBS, some have worked, and I have to figure out what the new error messages mean. The variables are the distro release, architecture, and gcc versions.

And also helping with the Debian 12-based MX 23 development. Luckily the California storms haven't affected the San Diego region adversely, instead they only ended water use restrictions here, and made weeds grow like crazy.

Looks like the Bionic i386 and amd64 builds are now successful, along with most other arches and distro releases except for Debian testing and Sid.
