Issue with dynamic tab sizes (browser.tabs.resize_immediately)

Post by Shield » 2016-02-25, 13:10

Hello,

increasingly unhappy with FF I finally decided to give Pale Moon an honest try. Accompanied by compatibility problems with about 50% of my usual extensions, I stumbled across an issue regarding Pale Moons browser.tabs.resize_immediately setting, which doesn't seem to work (at least not as expected). I can't see any difference whether its true or false, in both cases tab sizes keep being dynamically adjusted depending on the space available.

This changes when I install Tab Utilities (including the so-called 'fixed' version). Thereupon the dynamically adjustment is gone: as soon the tabs occupy 50% of the panel they abruptly shrink to a fixed small size. :wtf:
I am aware that Tab Utilities comes with a similar setting called extensions.tabutils.delayResizing, but again, no combination of both settings brings the desired dynamic adjustment back. :|

I'm using current Pale Moon v26.1.1, Windows 7 Desktop 32 bits.

"resize immediately" as the name indicates, only determines *when* a tab resizes.

Thank you for your response Moonchild. :)

Tabs gradually reduce in size in order to fit into the desired area, and extend again the more space becomes available, usually by closing some of them. Maybe I get something wrong here, but the browser.tabs.resize_immediately setting does not seem to make any difference at all to this. Looks exactly the same.

However, that's not the real issue. It's the effect of Tab Utilites. It completely turns off this dynamic change in size. There are just two sizes left. maximum and minmum, switching to the latter at 50% tab panel utilization.

If this seems not to be related to the mysterious browser.tabs.resize_immediately setting, feel free to move this thread to the appropriate category...
