Site Does Not Display Correctly

Post by tb75252 » 2016-02-03, 20:18

I am using Pale Moon v. 26.0.2 (64-bit) on a Windows 7 PC.

Is anybody else having troubles displaying this site? http://www.city-data.com/forum/

On my PC it displays all squashed on the leftmost third of the screen... Not having such troubles with Internet Explorer or Firefox, so I am assuming there is some sort of bug in Pale Moon. Also, did not have such problem with Pale Moon v. 25 or earlier.

It appears that the site is being redirected to mobile display, CLICK HERE in reference to this regarding Pale Moon 26.x.x.

The sites main page works fine http://www.city-data.com/, it's just when you use the forum (URL you posted) also linked on this main page that the problem arises where apparently the site is getting redirected to mobile site. At least that's my perception. I use the main site a lot, never used the forum however. It looks like all the other links work okay including the Blog link.

The forum site however displays correctly with Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Cyberfox. Also, it was displaying correctly with PM 25. Wouldn't that indicate that there is some sort of bug in PM 26?

You're correct, the link I posted above as you see is in reference to Pale Moon 26.x.x, in other words post-PM 26 some websites are incorrectly interpreting the current versions of Pale Moon and redirecting to their mobile sites as I understand it.

I'm getting the same problem in their forum, although as Pale Moon Rising said the main page renders just fine. Is it possible that only their forum is using (broken) browser detection?

Yes, it's probably a good idea for anyone who uses the forum to let them know. ;)

I wouldn't call it solved. Every time you clear your cookies you'll be fed the mobile version of their forum again.

The only people that can solve it are whoever is responsible for that forum, in the meantime, the workaround that they've supplied will only cost a key-press and mouse-click to access.

If you add this UAO then problem solved permanently (no need to worry about cookies or pressing the Desktop link button): Add "general.useragent.override.city-data.com" and set the string value to "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:45.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/45.0 (Pale Moon)", no more problems with site.
