About three weeks ago I was running 64 bit linux SolydX on one of my desktop tower computers using 64 bit linux Pale Moon and Yahoo was displaying properly for me. I no longer run SolydX now since the Plymouth splash screen somehow quit working and it refused to load and I could no longer boot to my Desktop. I couldn't fix it either using the Terminal. Instead of re-installing SolydX, I installed 64 bit Mint 17 on that desktop computer.

Right now on both of my desktop tower computers, they're both running 64 bit linux Mint 17 in XFCE using 64 bit linux Pale Moon 24.7.2 and Yahoo displays properly for me. I opened up another window to check Yahoo after seeing your message to see if Yahoo would give me the same result as your's and it didn't. I also fired up my second desktop computer and Yahoo displays properly on that desktop computer too.

Both of my desktop computers use old Nvidia GeForce graphics cards (440 & 220).

That looks like the kind of layout sites would present to mobile devices with a smaller screen. Means yahoo is probably doing something odd with their detection script and presenting a mobile site to a desktop users. Contact yahoo?

I'm using PM4linux 24.7.2 (x64)

Yahoo still works fine in firefox and chromium and it worked fine the other day in PM, if it was PM and not just yahoo what do you think it would be? or is this something that can't be the web browsers fault?

Thanks

EDIT:

Your right Moonchild, I just noticed that yahoo's address in my PM address bar has a "m" for mobile in it.

What in PM would cause Yahoo to think PM was a mobile phone?

Nothing but the fact it's not the one of the most used browsers.

I'm willing to bet that Yahoo is looking at the UserAgent, not finding anything known and defaulting to mobile.
Complain to yahoo, please. it's not something that is the browser's fault, and they should fix their detection script.

As a temporary workaround you can set general.useragent.override.yahoo.com to a known mainstream browser version, e.g. Firefox:

Code: Select all

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:28.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/28.0
but ultimately it's something yahoo has to fix.

Spoofing the user-agent seems to be the workaround at this time.

I have created a post regarding this issue which hopefully you'll can get to from the following link(?) that follows:

Added comments or 'Voting' may get Yahoo!'s attention... to fix this?

I had the same problem. What EVENTUALLY worked for me in the screen https://m.yahoo.com/w/legobpengine/fron ... s&.lang=en, I clicked on the little icon in the upper left (three horizontal lines). That put me into another screen. On the lower left the second to bottom option is "Desktop Version". I clicked on it. But

when I tried it in the morning of the 18th, it gave me an error, but when I tried it again in the afternoon, it worked and the problem was solved.

In the meantime what worked for me immediately was changing the link from https://my.yahoo.com/ to https://my.yahoo.com/?m=pc . That worked, but after I made the change in the PM, that was no longer needed.

I did this as well but none of it worked.

FWIW, it looks like this issue has been resolved for now without the necessity of doing additional user-agent spoofing to get a non-mobile user webpage in Pale Moon for Linux at https://www.yahoo.com .

Now after signing off from my 'Yahoo! Mail' account which automagically and annoyingly and immediately redirects to the https://www.yahoo.com I now see the same 'normal' frontpage of Yahoo! that other desktop users would expect to see.

(Tested in both 64-bit and 32-bit Pale Moon 24.7.2 [Linux])

I noticed a few days ago that with the upgrade to PM for Linux 25.0.0 that this issue has returned on the Linux side. Since this is NOT happening in my Win7 PM 25.0.1 browser, I guess I'll hold off on adding additonal 'Feedback' at yahoo for the moment and check again when a further upgrade to PM4Linux 25.x.x is release?
