Contributed builds for linux.
hi,
I am fully aware that 32bit linux builds have been discontinued and i fully undderstand the reasons why.Pale moon is my favourite browser and i have used it for many years and i am now at a dilemma as i only have a 32bit computer and i obviously cannot update to the latest version..are there any unofficial contributed builds anywhere which will run on puppy linux.?..
Thanks.!

Re: Contributed builds for linux.
You could install Debian, there exists a repository that still build packages for i386.
I don't know any repository for Puppy yet.

Re: Contributed builds for linux.
Debian package MIGHT, but only MIGHT work without reinstalling. I will see if I can do/test something this week/weekend.
Re: Contributed builds for linux.
I have tried debian in the past and it was a nightmare,Could never get the sound working..thanks for the replies.

Re: Contributed builds for linux.
Well, I mean according to your profile you use "Xenial puppy linux 32-bit." I have no idea how it works but I searched online and it seems ot be compatible with Ubuntu 16.04 you could ask Steve about using obs and maybe make 32 bit for ubuntu 16.04 yourself.
Re: Contributed builds for linux.
Puppy runs entirely in ram. This laptop is getting on a bit now so puppy is perfect at the moment.Software is usually installed using Petfiles but .deb files can be used also and run from anywhere in the filesystem.

Re: Contributed builds for linux.
Hmm, can't you update to "Ubuntu Bionic x86 32-bit BionicPup32 8.0"?
It is based on Ubuntu 18.04 and Steve builds i386 for ubuntu 18.04.
This is the option that takes lowest effort in my opinion.

Re: Contributed builds for linux.
Thanks..I have tried bionicpup and it doesn't play well with this laptop..older puppies are more preferable.Like i said ubuntu repos can be used and .debfiles are not usually a problem.

Stop trying to use old and insecure hardware and software.

Not for anything to do on the internet. But if you want to be wide open to security exploits, it's your call.

Re: Contributed builds for linux.
That is a rather close minded paranoid outlook but that of course is your perogative.I have never experienced an exploit while using my "older" hardware..so according to your logic newer hardware does not get exploited or is more immune..i think not.

Good, now think about the software you're running instead of focusing on only one thing that I said.

Re: Contributed builds for linux.
The only caveat with using puppy linux is that the filesystem is always running as root.I run the browser using "spot" which is a restricted scenario.
Software does not need to be installed but can be run using sfs packages which can be loaded and unloaded at will.
best operating system i have ever used and for older hardware and computers it's a no brainer to use puppy.

Re: Contributed builds for linux.
Does anyone really take moonraker seriously?
Re: Contributed builds for linux.
Whether people take me seriously is irrelevant and i'm not trying to get brownie points here. There are a lot of people using older hardware and computers which run fine.Instead we live in a world where decisions in regard to computing are made for us whether we want them or not.
If the older stuff works then give me one reason why i shouldn't use it and before the exploit army comes with a vengeance then it may surprise you to know that "new" hardware gets exploited too so the newer vs older argument doesn't wash here.
I bet nobody even knows how many 32bit users are out there getting left in the dark because it is "assumed" falsely that people are not using it.

Sorry to disappoint but i don't do requests
I have been known to walk on the water though,
But on a more serious note my comment does have validity especially in nixland.

Re: Contributed builds for linux.
That is of course your opinion. However there is contention to that way of thinking in regard to other browser companies.
The chromium project plus mozilla do not share your viewpoint as they offer 32bit builds so it cannot be a serious point of contention because if that were true then they would in affect produce only 64bit builds for linux.of course that could be just to boost user figures so widening the spectrum would be sensible in that regard.
So the gist of my comment is thus..using older hardware or operating systems "cannot" be in itself wrong or bad as other browser companies do not share that point of view.
