Chrome, Wants to be Chrome, Was Chrome, and Chrome are their supported browsers.
That has a distinct wiff of the truth about it.

No "whiff" about it.

New Tobin Paradigm was stating an evident truth:

Github is only interested in supporting Chrome-based or Chrome-aping browsers. Nothing more.

It didn't use to be like that.
And with Microsoft's takeover we all got the "promise that it would still be the same".

Of course that was a lie, given a bit of time.

Tech support turnaround has gone from days to months.
Browser agnosticism is out the window.
Microsoft service integration is creeping in steadily, overshadowing what GitHub's independence was before.

Just more 2020 "I told you so".
Unfortunately it does mean that we WILL be moving off of GitHub once I'm recovered and can make time for it. I'm just not sure where to host our foundry instance at the moment. I'd like to have it in a DC but I think the required disk space will be restrictive.

As of today, there is no need for additional scripts when using GitHub Web Components Polyfill.
Same is true for this uBlock filter you posted some time ago right?

Code: Select all

github.com##+js(remove-attr.js, data-pjax)

Exactly.

Off-topic:
In fact, the Web Components polyfill can also be embedded using uBlock Origin, but for a number of reasons I chose to do it as a separate add-on.

So did you steal my code or not? Cause that userscript is not open source.

GitHub Web Components Polyfill has been updated to 1.0.4, now popups on usernames, issues, commits, etc. also work as they should.

They also recently broke Firefox 60 (and before that 52). But Firefox 68 works fine so far.
This is a sad situation with fox browsers. Imgur no longer supports Firefox 68, for example, but does support Pale Moon. In modern browsers (newer than 68), there is no simple way to disable telemetry.

Why are they now trying to camouflage GitHub's search bar?
A temporary coding error perhaps?
Anyway, these uBO rules restores the old look:

Code: Select all

github.com##.header-search-wrapper:style(background: #fff !important;)
github.com##.header-search-wrapper .header-search-input:style(margin-left: 5px !important;)
github.com##.header-search-wrapper .header-search-input, .header-search-wrapper .header-search-input::placeholder:style(color: #000 !important;)

Will the GitHub issues be fixed in PM next versions without needing installing extension?
Many elements are broken for me now too (28.14.2, Win7 32 bit)...

It was a matter of just fetching an earlier revision?

Just install the damn extension.

Browser-side solutions will require the complete implementation of Google WebComponents because that is what GitHub under the leadership of Microsoft is currently aiming for. That won't happen swiftly or without serious community effort.
To quote their (very carefully and impersonally worded) support response when challenging them about their use of WebComponents:
J.J. - GitHub developer support wrote:... it would be disingenuous of us not to recognise that there is clearly a difference of opinion where our use of custom elements is concerned. GitHub considers this open specification part of a diverse and healthy set of modern web standards. As these standards continue to be adopted and supported by web developers and browser maintainers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge), we will continue to make use of them. For browsers {sic: without support for WebComponents} ..., further degradation is a likelihood.

I appreciate that this is disappointing and frustrating for you, as the lead developer of one such browser, but we would like to be upfront and honest about the future implications here.

Well, at least they were pretty frank with you at the end, Moonchild. I do hope that Github becomes defunct and people migrate elsewhere.

But at least they pretty much told you explicitly to take a hike. I can have at least a small amount (key word there is small, of course) of respect for an entity that makes it clear in pretty much no uncertain terms that there is no hope for you, and that your efforts, time, and business would be better spent elsewhere.

The ones that dodge even admitting to that that are the ones that bother me the most. I have run into far too many tech support teams for websites, businesses, etc. who utterly give the runaround.

If I were a judge, I'd take it as physical evidence of antitrust law violation... But that's just me.
