New dark theme

Unread post by Moonchild » 2020-08-30, 22:28

For all of you dark lovers, I found an alternative dark theme y'all may enjoy a little better than "pycode".
It's a prosilver-based subsilver2 style, which has been used and tweaked by several other forum owners and I've adapted to our forum. It may need a few more minor tweaks but should be usable as-is.

Check it out in your user control panel -> Board preferences -> My board style -> dark-subsilver2

I really like the way the Pale Moon icon looks against a dark background. It's really similar to looking at the moon in the night sky.
"The Athenians, however, represent the unity of these opposites; in them, mind or spirit has emerged from the Theban subjectivity without losing itself in the Spartan objectivity of ethical life. With the Athenians, the rights of the State and of the individual found as perfect a union as was possible at all at the level of the Greek spirit." -- Hegel's philosophy of Mind

The "Forum rules" section at the top of some of the Threads pages is pretty hard to read. No problem with pycode.

When I tested it out last night, a lot of the screen space on the left and right was wasted space. What I mean is, it didn't stretch out to fill the width like the other themes do.

Are you sure you tested the correct theme? Because pycode doesn't fill the space given but darksilver should.

ron_1, not that Moonchild needs my agreement here, but, he's right.

I use the prosilver SE (forest) theme. I wish it did a bit more, specifically: changing the default light blue of some of the board to a light green or something (even with what it does, it leaves some areas light blue, which seems to defeat the purpose a bit).

I also like (and have used) prosilver SE (cool blue).

Having more themes is always great. Thanks for adding this new one, Moonchild. It is definitely superior to pycode (dark theme) with regard to what it is trying to do.

I did not. I accidentally looked at pycode (dark theme). The new theme does fill out the width. Sorry about that.

One thing though, the border around the smilies looks pretty rough on this theme (and also pycode).

This new dark theme makes even the pale moon icon (look moonchild's signature) to look better, the moon glow it's visible now.

Hopefully someone will make a similar theme for the browser :)

That's because phpBB's default smileys theme is using GIFs like we're still in the 90s
To fix that we'd need proper redone smileys.
