Random Youtube videos simply not working anymore.
Running the latest 32-bit Pale Moon version 28.9.3, I recently came across this weird issue on SOME Youtube links.
In short, none of the page's visuals load up, and the player shows following error:
"Your browser does not currently recognize any of the video formats available."
Clicking the "Click here" link below tells me that there's nothing wrong with my Browser, and it should work fine.
Again, it's only been a handful of individual videos that seem to repeat this problem, while all the others work without issues. HTML5 playback's not an issue on other websites either.
The problematic videos also work fine on other browsers, such as Opera.
This problem only surfaced within the last ~7 days or so, as some of the affected videos I already had on my Favorites lists.
Some of the DIY fixes I've tried so far:
-Restarted in safe mode, with all add-ons disabled.
-Toggled the MSE and User Agent Modes in the Preferences.
-Cleared the entire cache.
Curiously, running the browser in the Private mode DOES let the said videos play again.

Are the particular videos DRM'd?
Re: Random Youtube videos simply not working anymore.
No issue on my end (so it is not DRM related).

Re: Random Youtube videos simply not working anymore.
NoScript excludes you from support.
Re: Random Youtube videos simply not working anymore.
In my case, I was getting VP9 video (& opus audio).
There is also mp4 available, but that looks to be AV1 (I believe).
(And recent discussion here says that isn't available, yet, in PM?
So if you were doing something on your end to force mp4 over VP9...)
(I'm not seeing NoScript?
And .webm looks to be enabled, if I'm reading that correctly.)

Re: Random Youtube videos simply not working anymore.
Remove NoScript (search the forum to see how to properly remove it) and try again.
You have uBlock anyway, so you don't need NoScript.

Re: Random Youtube videos simply not working anymore.
As stated, uninstall noscript, clear your cache and clear your cookies to get back to a somewhat sane environment, then try again. Also, make sure your other installed blockers aren't inadvertently interfering.Name: NoScript
Version: 5.1.9
Enabled: true
ID: {73a6fe31-595d-460b-a920-fcc0f8843232}
And before you provide resistance like "but safe mode..." or "but noscript disabled", etc. No, that often does not solve NoScript issues.

Re: Random Youtube videos simply not working anymore.
Like mentioned earlier, I tried the videos with ALL add-ons and extensions disabled (safe mode). No cigar.
The NoScript is also disabled / letting all scripts run on the site. I have now also tried first disabling, and finally deleting the NoScript altogether, yet the problem still remains.
I also very much prefer having the NoScript, for extra security + less annoyances on certain web pages.
I was going to comment that the problem's not present on my laptop with an identical PM build, but apparently I was wrong.
The same videos give the same error there now as well.

@ Duggy
The link to the video which you posted plays for me without any problems.
As of this time, I'm using 64 bit linux Pale Moon 28.9.3 running in 64 bit linux Mint 19.3 (Tricia) Xfce. And the only addons/extensioins I have installed are NoSquint and uBlock Origin with UBO enabled for YouTube.
I also have hardware acceleration turned off.

Re: Random Youtube videos simply not working anymore.
Looks like NoScript buggered up your profile. If you saw MC's post, testing in safe mode (or with NS disabled) does not always clear up NoScript's problems (and I am speaking from experience). Test your links in a new clean profile, and more than likely your problem will go away.

Re: Random Youtube videos simply not working anymore.
I've been getting this issue with new, streaming videos. Once the video has completed streaming and is uploaded as a normal video, the file format changes and Pale Moon can play the video again. The example I've been using is Prof. Brian Greene's "Your Daily Equation" series (https://www.youtube.com/user/worldsciencefestival/videos) which air at Noon Pacific time (3 PM Eastern) Monday - Friday.
There's an error in the console about a hex value not being a valid flag or something, I'll grab it in a few minutes and replace this text with the details.
And, of course, it didn't do it today. All week, it was giving me this....

Re: Random Youtube videos simply not working anymore.
Okay, been testing things out on my end.
End result is this:
No matter what I do, no matter how I nuke the PM and started with a brand new, fresh install (Appdata folders & such deleted too), the issue still remains.
HOWEVER, this problem seems to ONLY surfaces once I log-in to my Youtube account. If I stay logged out, I can see the videos just fine. Why this happens, I have no idea.
Trying to report the issue to YT via their own Feedback link also gets frozen every time I try it, forcing me to stop the script and close the tab / browser manually.
I tried the same pages with the FF + NoScript + uBlock, same configurations and white lists, and get no such errors.

Re: Random Youtube videos simply not working anymore.
Works fine for me too, while being logged in. So it's not directly related to being logged in or not.

It's been a while since I've used Windows. Is the Appdata folder where the profile is stored? Are you sure the new install is not using the old profile?Duggy wrote:

FTR, the link plays fine for me.
Re: Random Youtube videos simply not working anymore.
I saw this error when I watched live stream and then pause it for a 10 minutes. After continue watching, video/stream stopped closely before the end and show this error. But I think, this is Youtube thing, they have some issues about it.

Youtube switched me on old design again, so I don't need Grease Monkey script with &disable_polymer=1 anymore. Strange.
