It appears that you need to authorize on this site to check. Current workaround is to set layers.prefer-d3d9 to true. Several users reported this problem when using with Firefox 74-75 so it is related to Mozilla code.

Re: passport.sape.ru + Pale Moon + Windows 7 x64 D3D11 = crash
The error occurs in dwrite.dll which is not our code; it's a Microsoft DX library.
Usually this is caused by an underlying issue in your video drivers, and not the DirectWrite dll itself.
The fact that Mozilla-based code triggers it doesn't mean it is caused by it.

I know, but same problem is reported by other users too and is related to Windows 7-8.1 and Firefox browser, maybe you can check, why it crashes on this page when using DX11 layers acceleration on these systems?
I'm using latest 32-bit version of Pale Moon, but this behavior is common for entire 28.9.x branch (did not tested with earlier versions).

Re: passport.sape.ru + Pale Moon + Windows 7 x64 D3D11 = crash
I doubt this is the exact case of this problem (this is the most stable version of these drivers on GTX 1050), but, well, I will test it with latest stable NVIDIA driver version...
Re: passport.sape.ru + Pale Moon + Windows 7 x64 D3D11 = crash
Using such old drivers is most definitely a prime suspect for these kinds of crashes - so it is a necessary first step.
I think 2016 drivers must be 1st gen RTM drivers for the GTX1050? They certainly will have plenty of bugs.

Re: passport.sape.ru + Pale Moon + Windows 7 x64 D3D11 = crash
That was the most stable version of drivers before introduction of NvContainer. NvContainer versions caused random black screen GPU reset.
Anyways, it still crashes:

28.9.3 - same result
Re: passport.sape.ru + Pale Moon + Windows 7 x64 D3D11 = crash
Sorry to hear your driver update didn't fix it.
Unfortunately there is very little, if anything, that can be done about a crash that isn't under our control. Most that can be done is blocking what makes it crash through a blocklist entry.

Re: passport.sape.ru + Pale Moon + Windows 7 x64 D3D11 = crash
I have traced the problem to gfx.downloadable_fonts.enabled - it seems that some downloadable fonts will crash the browser when using DX11 rendering (antialiasing?)

BTW, IIRC, using driver version before 430.64, is risky, due to a known vulnerability.
Re: passport.sape.ru + Pale Moon + Windows 7 x64 D3D11 = crash
I'm already using latest release 445.87 and it appears stable. Still getting guaranteed crash on this one specific site with downloadable fonts and DX11 render.RJARRRPCGP wrote: ↑2020-05-15, 15:48BTW, IIRC, using driver version before 430.64, is risky, due to a known vulnerability.
Re: passport.sape.ru + Pale Moon + Windows 7 x64 D3D11 = crash
DirectWrite is primarily used for accelerated font shaping so it would make sense that disabling the use of downloaded fonts would potentially dodge the issue.
A better solution for you is though to simply switch off direct2d for your use. Set gfx.direct2d.disabled to true in about:config (and make sure force-enabled isn't erroneously set either).
That way you can keep downloadable fonts (that a ton of sites do rely on for proper display/their design) enabled and otherwise have a good web experience.
I've done some research and I can't find any other mention of your specific card or class of NV cards causing issues so it may be very specific to your system/system software, system graphics settings, etc. so I'm apprehensive about instating a feature block for this that would impact everyone.

Re: passport.sape.ru + Pale Moon + Windows 7 x64 D3D11 = crash
Indeed, gfx.direct2d.disabled "solves" this problem (fonts look the same as with d3d9 rendering, but there's no crash on passport.sape.ru). Still I wonder, why it crashes on this specific site... It seems that there is only one downloadable font: https://static.sape.ru/common/fonts/pr-icons.woff
Ok, I have traced this down to ClearType being disabled on system level. When it is enabled, no crash occurs. It is better to check for it somehow before calling ClearType-related routines...

Re: passport.sape.ru + Pale Moon + Windows 7 x64 D3D11 = crash
That check has to be done elsewhere. DirectWrite combined with having no cleartype works just fine at the browser level, last I checked.
EDIT: verified just now, system cleartype disabled, direct2d enabled, directwrite in use, went to passport.sape.ru: no crash. Of course I wasn't able to log in... :/
I did however notice one important difference. Your DirectWrite library is 6.2.9200.22084 but the latest (current) version of that lib is 6.2.9200.22774. This probably means you haven't installed the latest updates for the platform update for Windows. I do know that quite a few crash bugs were fixed in subsequent updates.

Re: passport.sape.ru + Pale Moon + Windows 7 x64 D3D11 = crash
The crash is for logged-in users only. It occurs when rendering that specific downloadable font.
It appears that your dwrite.dll is in https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... -kb4508772 , I will check it now.
...well, it updated successfully, still crashes on same conditions:

Yeah sorry I can't check something that's behind an auth wall.
I don't have anything else to suggest except disable d2d.

I hope you will find something to use in new Mozilla code. Tested with latest portable FF 76.0.1 (32-bit) and its default settings - no crash, d3d11 enabled, d2d enabled, found some warnings in their about:support, though:
