I had mentioned this earlier - the new account wizard isn't letting me choose the type of account and directly assumes I want to set up an NNTP server. I already have 2 mail and 2 newsgroup accounts configured.
Seen after the latest update as well.
I can setup an email account.. So what did you do.. Did you import a profile from thunderbird.. was it newer than 52? Got some extension fucking your shit. Does the error console say anything about it? Or is it you just can't read cause the release notes clearly indicate that I haven't changed shit for several releases now so nothing should be busted.

But it is, and this is on a FRESH install on Linux Mint 19.2 Xfce x64, no Thunderbird bullshit, no extensions beyond pre-installed Lightning.
On startup the error console says -

Code: Select all

Timestamp: 31/10/19 10:16:58
Error: Please do not load stuff in the multimessage browser directly, use the SummaryFrameManager instead.
Source File: resource://gre/modules/summaryFrameManager.js
Line: 84
I have already set up 2 IMAP & 2 NNTP accounts, it won't let me set up more. As I understand the new account wizard asks the type of account first, here it jumps straight to the name and email address page.

Can't reproduce a problem with the new account wizard (and I've got like 10 various accounts set up in interlink)
Press button, receive bacon wizard opens on type of account chooser.

Are there any NNTP accounts in your list? Could be related. You could add news.mozilla.org and try.

I did, but it makes no difference. I'm still receiving bacon getting the proper wizard page.

So Tuesday, we released another platform update focused version of Interlink Mail & News at 7238.

This is the last version of the GTK3 Linux build that will run on systems and distros with glibc version less than 2.28. GTK2 build is unaffected. If you are using the GTK3 version you may want to update your system or switch to the GTK2 version before the next Interlink Release.

Additionally, there is going to be a refresh of the mailnews core and friends coming that should bring improvements and more security updates.. Also, may include some application code changes as well of which there haven't really been any for a while.

So Interlink development is not winding down because the end of the mandatory year I agreed to when the project was funded and started is approaching.

Anyone knows of an active text newsgroup? Prior to switching to the test version of Interlink, I'm trying to subscribe to a few but I get zero messages. I do have a newsgroup provider and newsgroup titles/names are downloaded successfully. Zero content though - no error messages.

I did test this successfully when Interlink was released not too long ago.

I made a post in alt.comp.os.solaris recently asking if we could talk about OI and illumos in that group, so you should be able to see that post at least.

Actually, the most active text newsgroup I've found so far is Mozilla's SeaMonkey group. You would point it to news.mozilla.org and then look at mozilla.support.seamonkey where they talk about releasing a new version. They're still using that, probably because Mozilla either hasn't noticed or doesn't care that they're using the old newsgroups. Might have even forgotten they're running an NNTP server from the Netscape days. In fact, Mozilla's public-facing news servers are still called netscape.public.mozilla, and they haven't even bothered altering Netscape's decision to make the support forums private to their own news server while distributing the developer forums to USENET.

One thing to note is that there's a lot of spam on most public-facing newsgroups because active text groups are generally unmoderated, so you will have to sift through that, but it's actually surprising how much nicer actual newsgroups are than the mailing list software people use as a hack to achieve basically the same thing via normal e-mail nowadays.

Thanks, subscribed to both alt.comp.os.solaris and mozilla.support.seamonkey but I'm not seeing anything. Something else must be going on.

If you're looking at general usenet access without the binaries (which are mostly porn and pirated software), Eternal September is a good option. You have to sign up for a free account and use authentication to connect to it.

I'm preparing for migration from Thunderbird (52.9.1) and I'd appreciate some advice on what would be the best way to do it:

- transfer the old profile folder and attempt to clean up all the errors (e.g. remove extensions, adjust preferences, etc), or
- set-up all email accounts from scratch and then import old emails and calendars.

I've been using Thunderbird for 13 years, and the profile folder is 19GB (18.5 mail). First option seems faster at the risk of running into time-consuming errors and expense of carrying over decade old junk, while second option seems slower to start but would provide a clean start.

What's your experience with such migrations?

Starting from scratch is always preferable, since you are switching applications. Having said that, Interlink is known to perform well in these situations. Whatever you do, always keep an untouched backup copy of your profile folder. You might need it for things like message filters, address books etc. and in case the migration is not fully successful. Still, I'd recommend a clean start.

@New Tobin Paradigm: here's a hopefully simple suggestion. Add "Start with Windows" and "Start minimized + to Tray" options. I know the same result can be achieved manually and with extensions but a native option would be more elegant (=without having to see the window first opened and then minimized). About "you are welcome to contribute/do it yourself etc.", I know. I would if I could. It's a mere suggestion, feel free to ignore it.

I've migrated a 9 GB/10 POP3 accounts/25 RSS feeds profile from Thunderbird 68 to latest Interlink by doing the worst possible thing: copying the Thunderbird profile to Interlink profile.

After the first Interlink start, I had to dismiss the check for extensions updates and remove the Lightning version included in Thunderbird.

Afterwards, I've enabled the Lightning included in Interlink.

So far, everything is working as expected.

@back2themoon RESOLVED INVALID

@Attronarch I would wait until after the 10th of December before you migrate. Assuming you keep your mailboxes in your profile you can just copy the profile over from Thunderbird <= 52 and do what others suggested. One thing you MAY want to do to ensure any cached absolute path values are updated is go into Account Settings and go through and hit ok on the main account pane for each account (do this in Server Settings for IMAP accounts) just to make sure the Local Directory value is updated. Beyond that, yeah remove Lightning if you use it and enable the bundled version and go ahead and remove any jetpack extensions you may have as Jetpack is not supported.

Whatever you end up doing be sure to make backups!

Thank you for all the advice. I'll wait until after the 10th of December and then proceed with migration.

Testing 7257 and no problems. 47 accounts, IMAP and news, various servers/ISPs, 19 extensions. Filters, etc.
Would it be helpful to post/email a redacted copy of the "Troubleshooting Information?
