Having issues with some websites in Pale Moon

Unread post by DavidP » 2019-10-18, 14:19

For example, just switching the Google account gets stuck and loads forever:

Other examples don't occur to me right now, but it happens more and more often that pages don't load in PaleMoon, which is why I then use Google Chrome instead for these pages.

I shall add more corresponding incidents here as they happen.

Thanks

On a fresh PM portable, I can switch google accounts just fine. The problem might be on your side, but without more information, those who could help can't really.

If you're looking for help with your broken sites, you want to post in General Support, not General Discussion. and also include the required information for people to be able to assist you. If you want to simply complain about PM then well..

I moved it here from General Support because the post didn't ask for specific support; it just made a statement/gripe, at most a discussion-opener.

I've seen people just make a one off post saying it doesn't work - without providing either the URL in question or any troubleshooting info - then they'll go on r/palemoon and gripe about how the developers of this browser are unhelpful and 'toxic'.

I should be happy if the problem were at my end, because my productivity would be KILLED, would I have to quit using Pale Moon and tons of invaluable XUL addons, first and foremost the legendary SearchWP.

I was just going to state that for example, Linkedin.com has stopped working in Pale Moon months ago -- but just gave it a try on another PC, and sure enough, it worked there.

So I'll try to figure out why it wouldn't work on my main PC and then report back.

Try connecting to that site using a new profile.

"More and more "modern" websites no longer work in PaleMoon"

So... you provide ONE example. Of a website that works. And you get the browser name wrong.

That title is in serious need of editing. :D

So I just now had problems loading a certain website again (this time it was the "reply to post page" of a phpBB Forum).

Then I tried and deactivated all of the following add-ons:
  1. GreaseMonkey 3.17
  2. LinkVisitor 3.4.2.1
  3. Multi Links 3.0.0.19.1
  4. OpenDownload² 4.1.2
  5. Re-Pagination 2011.5.15.1 (still using Re-Pagination 2015.01.11.1 -- had both versions installed :wtf: )
  6. SMPlayer View 1.0.2.1
The troubled page then worked immediately again (after a browser restart).

Unfortunately, the Switch Google Account page specified in my original posting still does not work. However, in a freshly installed Pale Moon Portable it works immediately...

I then also uninstalled the following plugins:
  1. AdobeAAMDetect 1.0.0.0
  2. Adobe Flash 24.0.0.1 86
  3. PDF-XChange Viewer 2.5.320.0
  4. Silverlight Plug-In 5.1.50918.0
  5. Skype Meetings App 16.2.0.4 85
..but without success, as far as that Switch Google Account page is concerned.

Of course, I am always grateful for tips on what else I could do.

And yet you were able to post that.

I don't have multiple Google accounts, so I don't get that switch accounts view, but just for the interest, does Pale Moon password manager support multiple account logins for one same login site?
I'm actually not sure, but I think with a much older PM version I once had a login problem with 2 logins stored for one site, maybe it was just the autofill enabled, finally solved by deleting both and re-enter + save the login anew.

Basically the Portable install is the same as a regular one. Thus, everything that works with the portable install must work with the regular install too.
In case it doesn't, it means that something in your profile got fu**ed up.

I would wonder what the difference would be on Windows, then, between manually putting a folder containing Pale Moon Portable into one's Program Files [x86] folder, and using the full installation. Would add-ons be impacted?

You're just being dumb if you do that.

Really?
My memory is shite, but I'm pretty sure I did exactly that for the 28 update.
Seemed to me like it was such a big thing I didn't trust the update server to handle it.
So I slowly followed the unstable portable channel until unstable and release were in sync.

And then I thought: now what - do I want a fresh install and do all that work over? Or do I try moving profile across and see what happens?
So I moved the unstable portable across and the sky did not fall in. Might've been a few quirks; I forget.

After 6 months, I noticed I didn't have a cache, but that was hardly a biggie to sort...
