Ditto. After my previous post, a couple or three hours later, Linux Mint's Update Manager alerted me that the update was available.

This was just a bit weird. Last night, with the exception of xUbuntu_14.04, the status for all the 28.4.1 builds was 'succeeded', yet earlier today, still no availability of 28.4.1 packages to install. idk?

But all seems well now.

The Open SUSE Build service often moves in mysterious ways, at least to me. If it has a lot of users at the time, I do see it responding slowly. It has a chart of usage here: https://build.opensuse.org/

Packages have been added for Ubuntu 19.04, Debian Testing (Buster), and Debian Unstable (Sid). I already had a sort of hack to have Buster packages, using Debian_Next, but the migration the OBS did to add Buster ended up breaking those builds until I deleted and added it back.

Sources for PM 28.5.0 are uploaded and packages are building.

Edit: Ubuntu Trusty packages are uploaded and available for direct download here: https://archive.org/download/Palemoon_2 ... ck-1trusty

BTW, I saw that Trusty is end-of-life really most sincerely dead as of 30 April. Are you holdouts going to upgrade now? If so, I can dump that 32-bit Trusty virtual machine and schroots.

I for one certainly don't need the Trusty builds anymore. I asked you to keed them alive last year because I still had some people on 14.04, but have since then upgraded their computers to the latest LTS a while ago.

Thank you for your diligence, Steven, and keep up the good work! Much appreciated.

FYI, Trusty has transitioned to Extended Security Maintenance (ESM), which is aimed at the commercial sector:

Thanks for the update---I won't do any more Trusty packages, then.

Updated to 28.5.2 for Debian 8, 9, testing, and unstable; also for Ubuntu 16.04, 18.04, 18.10, and 19.04. The OBS currently can't even create a virtual machine for the Ubuntu Next platforms (19.10), dying right at the start with

Code: Select all

[ 17s] mount: error while loading shared libraries: libpcre2-8.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Mint 18.X users should use the Ubuntu 16.04 packages, while 19.X should use the Ubuntu 18.04 packages.

Updated the repos to today's 28.6.0 release. All builds successful except for Ubuntu Next, which I guess the OBS doesn't really support any longer.

Added a new repository for Debian 10, Buster, now that it's released. If you were were on Buster before and using the "testing" repository, and are sticking with Buster, you should disable that testing repo, which is now "Bullseye", and add the Debian 10 repo and repo key instead.

Recently switched to Mint 19.2, will it be possible to use either of these repositories, and if so which one? I'm running the regular downloaded package from the PM site for now.

@ moonbat

At the time and date of this posting, Mint 19.2 (Tina) is a "beta in testing" and has not been released publicly yet. It is not considered a stable version which means it is a "use at your own risk for testing purposes" at this time.

Mint 19.2 is based on Ubuntu 18.04 just like Mint 19 and Mint 19.1. Therefore you use the same repository entry as for Ubuntu 18.04.

Great, it's working now, thanks!

One other thing..how does update work - do I rely on the built in updater or does the package get updated with apt-get update?

If you install a software using a package manager, preferred way is to update it via that package manager, i.e. use apt-get update or whatever.
BTW, internal updater will work only if you have installed the browser (manually unpacking) in a user writable location which genereally happens to be somewhere in your home directory.

Hello, moonbat.

You can depend on Linux Mint Update Manager to query the repos for available software updates in regular intervals and offer them to you for installation. Click on the little shield icon in the right hand part of the bottom panel.
Or you can do so manually in the terminal window by executing the 2 commands in the given order:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
The first command queries the repos for available updates. The second command will install the available updates.
Note:
No matter whether you depend on Update Manager to do the job or whether you do it manually, in both cases only software packages will be updated, for which older versions are already present on your system.
As you have got PaleMoon on your system, this will apply to PaleMoon as well. As soon as Steve Pusser has made a newer PaleMoon available in his repo.

Best regards,
Karl

Thanks for the detailed clarification, Karl & adesh!
I was using the unzipped version earlier, and incorrectly had configured the v 19 repository thinking the version should match my Mint version.
Now I see that the packaged version doesn't have the 'check for updates' option since it's internally managed (same as the Firefox that's shipped by default). I think it's great to stick to apt-get and let PM be checked for updates along with everything else.

Pale Moon 28.6.1 is now available in the repository.

Some recent change a few days ago in the Debian Unstable repositories was making the previous version and now this one error out and fail right at the end of the build with some sort of error when checking the included extensions, but Debian Sid does break things from time to time. If the problem spreads into Debian Testing, then it will be time to sit up and see what can be done.
