WhatsApp Web problems - Pale Moon latest update (v28.5.2)

Unread post by spotify95 » 2019-06-10, 22:27

Hi,

I am having problems with the latest version of Pale Moon and WhatsApp Web.

WhatsApp Web has been working fine for a while now, without any issues. I was using it earlier today, yesterday, and prior days without any issues.

This evening I restart my browser and it is saying:

"WhatsApp works with Google Chrome 36+
To use WhatsApp, update Chrome or use Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Microsoft Edge or Opera"

So basically it is thinking that Pale Moon is actually a very old version of Google Chrome?

The attached screenshot is as follows:

Any help would be appreciated as I don't want to have to dump Pale Moon in favor of a browser such as Firefox/Chrome.

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, if that helps.

Works again indeed, might have been an error by WA Web.

WhatsApp Web problems are back again.
It's saying that I need Google Chrome 49+ in order for it to work (it's confusing Pale Moon as Google Chrome!) and that it won't load anything.

Was working fine again yesterday.

Solutions would be appreciated :).

Yup, let's hope this is only temporary again. This is starting to get annoying.

Please see this advice to edit PM's built-in user agent override for WhatsApp to advertise a later version of Chrome (at least 49). People who've tried it report that it works.

And another success! Thanks :)
I changed mine to Chrome 72 (which I think is the latest version) so no more needing to fiddle about for a while :P.

Yup, working, thx. I am just curious how the other topic gets so many replies, even from the dev himself, when this topic existed before.

Whatsapp Web stopped working for me recently... So this was a great help to me, thank you!
And just in case that link above ever goes dead or moves or something, here is the info (on Linux.. should be the same on Windows)

1. Type about:config in the address bar (accept the warning to be careful)
2. You'll get a long list of preferences. Search for whatsapp.
3. Double-click on general.useragent.override.web.whatsapp.com
4. Note the version of chrome in the string, and change it to a bigger number. Here is mine... I changed it to 666 for Chrome. :)
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/666.0.0.0 Safari/537.36

That's it!

Or just update to 28.6.0.1

My WAweb quit working again recently. I came to the forum and found info in this post, and thought "GREAT!". Then I realized *I* had posted it. haha   :D
I am on the latest version of PM (28.8.0) and the above string I used as my override quit working. So I deleted the override string, and WAweb said it only supported FF/Chrome/Safari/Opera.

So I launched FF (68.4.1esr-1~deb9u1) and it didn't get the error. So I used the string from it as the override and WAweb works again.
"Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/68.0"

Just posting this info here for future me.
And I guess it will also help to not get my account deleted. To be honest, I don't login here all that much because I rarely need help with PM!!!!! Keep up the great work.

Assuming you've not turned off site specific user-agent overrides, the default UA for Whatsapp Web is

Code: Select all

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/70.0.3538.77 Safari/537.36
and it works fine.
