Basilisk update 2019.06.08

Unread post by Moonchild » 2019-06-08, 21:35

Basilisk has been updated to v2019.06.08

http://www.basilisk-browser.org/releasenotes.shtml

This is a development, bugfix and security release. Please note that Google Widevine DRM might currently not work in new installations due to Google's licensing model.
  • Removed unused code: contextual identity, crash reporter leftovers, SecurityUI telemetry, "enhanced" new tab tiles.
  • Updated the installer and internal updater.
  • Removed all Firefox Accounts code and replaced the Sync client for compatibility.
  • Implemented JavaScript parser improvements and the TC39 toString() revision proposal for web compatibility.
  • Improved handling of url() tokens in CSS to better handle incorrect syntax.
  • Updated the embedded emoji font for broader emoji coverage.
  • Fixed print failure for some web pages.
  • Fixed Linux XRender performance issues over remote connections (e.g. X2Go).
  • Improved JavaScript engine performance: dead compartment collection,
  • Fixed an address bar focus issue in Private Browsing mode.
  • Improved rendering performance for certain websites (with complex event regions).
  • Implemented several ECMAScript 2019 features (String trimStart/trimEnd, Array flat/flatMap, Symbol description)
  • Fixed security issues: CVE-2019-7317, CVE-2019-11701, CVE-2019-11698, CVE-2019-9817 (DiD), CVE-2019-11700, CVE-2019-11696 and CVE-2019-11693.
  • Fixed several memory safety hazards and crashes.

I wanted to address the changes made in the Sync UI for Basilisk 2019.06.08.

The Sync UI Client code was ported from Pale Moon to Basilisk for full compatibility with the modified Tycho Weave Client backend code. This necessitated removing express integration of the Sync UI from the PanelUI (Hamburger Menu).

Because Basilisk normally does not have a menu bar active (nor has the AppMenu at all), in addition to the classical Sync Now button, a Synced Tabs button was also added to allow quick assess to Tabs from Other Devices.

You may find both buttons in the Australis Customization Mode and place them either on the PanelUI or the Navigational Toolbar as you see fit. Additionally, the relevant menu items were added to the History and Tools menus on the menu bar.

Please see the attached screenshot if you are not familiar with Pre-Australis Sync UI components.

Was hoping to get the updated EME APIs in but ran out of time and had to release because of security patches.

As long as Basilisk continues getting updated, even if infrequently, I'm happy.

I wouldn't call a little over 2 months "infrequently".

Re: Basilisk update 2019.06.08 - Lag / Not responding issue

Anyone reported sites they've been using with Basilisk for months suddenly having issues after the update?

I use this for my work's home grown web-app, and since the update, anytime a sub portion of the site updates, it locks basilisk up completely till the update completes its fill in. If this is known and will be getting addressed great .. if not.. I'd rather revert to the previous build where this problem didn't exist.

I can't post much publicly about the site its having issues on, but may be able to PM.

If you can do it better, then please be my guest.

I wouldn't be able to do even half as much as any of you guys and certainly not better :) . What I was saying was really just that if Basilisk ended up getting infrequent updates, I'd still be happy, as long as they come out. ;)
