New google layout??
My english is very bad so I use Google translated.
For some time there is new google layout in the search. How can I change it to the old Google layout?
I found that noscript 5 shows this new google layout I do not want to miss out on noscript.
Regards
Olaf

It's recommended not to use NoScript, in fact developers don't support it's use with the browser. You can try eMatrix for similar functionality.
You may not be able to use old Google layout it Google doesn't want you to.

Like with many forms of discrimination, you may have the ability to change who you appear to be .
NoScript: google search results displaying in mobile mode with Noscript, despite being on desktop
(Myself, I haven't bothered. [Yet?])

Re: New google layout??
That is not an answer.
The problem has arrived since a few days ago.
Up to now Google worked perfectly well on Pale Moon with NoScript, with no problems, for years.
Now this is happening on both Pale Moon and the latest Firefox, but NOT on Chrome!
I'm uploading screenshots to show the problem.
I would like to know if this is a problem of Pale Moon having lately changed the user-agent string, or whether Google have modified their search-screen to penalize everybody except Chrome.
Any ideas on getting back the old screen?

Try this on for size: Problems with Google aren't our problem and never were. Don't like it? Use Chrome.

Re: New google layout??
Allowing scripts for Google fixes the problem, but means that I cannot use my extensive history of past URLs, which Pale Moon kindly keeps for me.
Google will insist on showing me matches coming from all over the world, except for my own.
Form history is after all a Pale Moon mechanism that is blocked by this badly-written Google web-application.
In the past it was possible to block this using NoScript, but lately Google seems to have cannily done the opposite: changed the style rules inside the HTML to be really annoying, and set its JavaScript to fix it. Really clever.
Monkeying with the user-agent string, it seems like this can make a vast difference to the HTML generated by Google. An old user-agent can return oldish research results.
Does somebody know of a user-agent that generates the previous HTML?

So, it's a case of PEBCAK.

Re: New google layout??
Why do you guys use Google search? I have avoided Google for many years as I don't want the spying. There was a time when it was hard to use other search engines as Google was far superior but that is no longer true. Use DuckDuckGo. It doesn't spy on you even when you allow its cookies and set up some saved parameters for how the pages look. I've been using it from its inception and its evolvement is amazing. I only need Google these days for one website's maps that are married to Google and used by the TheBus itself not just on the website. I haven't visited the city where TheBus is located in years so Google has little to store on me. I'm Google FREE (including never having used or communicated with anyone who uses gmail. Why anyone would allow Google read and archive all their mail and actually expect privacy conscious users to meekly send them email at gmail knowing Google reads and archives their mail also is mind boggling. Get off of Google!

So I use now:
user-agent switcher:
https://github.com/chrispederick/user-a ... itcher.xpi
with the last browser list:
https://techpatterns.com/forums/about304.html
this will show the Google search correctly (if you select an older browser).

Re: New google layout??
Is it so severe insofar you do not log in to google ? all what they can know is your IP not your name ...
I am compelled sometimes to log in because my institution has moved to Gsuite for mail (in general I retrieve mail by fetchmail every 5 min, but to unmark spam I am forced to log in), but I soon log out and purge the cookies.

Re: New google layout??
A page of Google search in Pale Moon 28.5.0. I have no idea whether it’s a new or an old layout.
I use xml file with preferences configured for so-called global search: no safe filter, no country filter, no personalised search results, 20 results per page, links open in a new tab.
Google search has been helpful for several years now in the default Firefox Compatibility mode without Google account, without user-agent switcher, with or without uBlock Origin/eMatrix.

Pale Moon has a built-in UA override for google.com. Unless you modified it, you're using this:

This is the old layout which I'm trying to restore, but cannot, in spite of having erased all cookies and cache.Konrad wrote: ↑2019-05-28, 21:06A page of Google search in Pale Moon 28.5.0. I have no idea whether it’s a new or an old layout.
I wonder what's the difference ?

Re: New google layout??
Well, I'll be damned.
Yesterday my last attempt was to set the user-agent to Internet Explorer 7, which didn't work same as all my other attempts, so I stopped in disgust and turned off the computer.
This morning I find that Google works correctly and everything is back to normal.
The only problem is that I don't dare undo the user-agent, so will continue as Internet Explorer 7. Sigh..
Thanks for the tip about the User Agent Switcher add-on, which did the job.
However, does anyone know of a way or add-on that can selectively present different user-agent strings to different websites? I prefer being Internet Explorer 7 only to google.
