Very slow page loading for all sites - What can I do?

Unread post by Alghred47 » 2019-01-04, 22:41

Hello, all! I am excited about Pale Moon and eager to use it as my primary browser (currently Firefox Quantum) so that I can continue to use some of my favorite "legacy" addons, such as Tab Mix Plus and DownThemAll. However, it takes anywhere from a minimum of 20-30 seconds (very rarely that fast) to approximately 1 minute (typical) to over 3 minutes (rare but more common than 30 seconds or less). This is true even when I'm not running any other user applications.

Disabling my anti-virus and firewall changed nothing. And the long delays are present even for all Pale Moon-related pages.

I'm running 64-bit Windows 7 Pro directly (i.e., not virtually) on a reasonably fast desktop system with 16 GB of RAM. Here are my system's specs:

Mobo: ASUS Z87-A
CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K CPU @ 3.50GHz
RAM: 2 x G.Skill F3-2400C10-8GTX 8GB DIMM DDR3 PC3-19200U DDR3-2400
Video Adapters: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 & Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600
System disk is an SSD.

What can I do to dramatically speed things up? If I can't get average page loads to one second or less (like I get with Firefox Quantum, Chrome, and Vivaldi), I'll reluctantly have to look elsewhere...

By "loading" you mean getting the page from the web, or displaying it on the screen?
Anyway, the first thing to do is either use safe mode, or create a new clean profile and try to load a page without changing any preference.
User customization and/or add-ons might be the issue itself, after all.
(There is also the possibility that the web site itself is slow, and Firefox at al. load it fast only thanks to tricks and hacks that might not necessarily be good.)

Depending on what router hardware you have to connect to the internet and if it has an active web filtering in it, that may be part of the problem. Such long delays are common if a proxy or routing hop doesn't properly support http pipelining (which is enabled in Pale Moon by default, but not in Firefox).
Try disabling http pipelining in the browser by setting network.http.piplining and network.http.pipelining.ssl to false in about:config, then restarting the browser from the menu.
