You can use autoconfig files to preconfigure preferences and lock them with lockPref()

Go here and install Justoffs classic addons archive 1.2.2
https://github.com/JustOff/ca-archive/releases

Search in the archive for "Settings Page Protection 1.0.3".
I have never tried this extension but it apparently adds password protection to the preferences page.
Don't know if that will help you though.
There is also "Settings Protection 1.0.5".

What about giving other users their own user account in windows? Means everyone's settings are protected and everyone can have his own settings and extensions. Not only for the broser but for (almost) all applications and for the user files.

Hi, Thanks for responding!

Unfortunately, your solution, while a good one, won't work in my situation because the lockdown of preferences is for PM on my wife's computer with no other users. Left to her own devices, she has a tendency to screw up her settings, & I'm tired of endlessly having to redo them!

Copy a profile of hers you are happy with.
When she screws up, restore it.

This is a good idea!

The problem I then have is then preserving all the stuff she legitimately changes:

logins. bookmarks, history, site preferences, cookies, etc.

I think all you need to save is the "prefs.js" file.

You could use a user.js file to preserve your settings. If you do not have a chrome editor installed, it would be inconvenient for another user to change the settings.
