Hide Title Bar

Unread post by Marcus » 2018-09-05, 12:44

Hi.

Would it be possible to have an option to hide the Title Bar under Linux?
I'm using Hide Caption Title Bar Plus, which works but can be a little erratic.

Thanks.

What is that you call a title bar ? The red one in the attached screen dump ?
That is generated by the window manager, not by palemoon !
There are ways to hide the window manager decor, but that depends on the window manager you use (I may know a solution for fvwm :D)

Firefox 61 has the option built in.

We are not Firefox, Marcus. Don't expect UI options to be available for something that has literally no UI elements in common anymore.

That's too bad, I was expecting it'd be a simple implementation.

Version 2.8.6.1
I tried newer versions but found them bloated and unstable.

I'm using "Hide Caption Titlebar Plus 2.8.7rc" on W764 and it seems to work
just as it should. No issues here. Not sure about Linux stuff as they have such
a different U.I. system.

I can't say for linux but it is no longer downloadable so here it is. Give it a try.

I third the motion for HCTP 2.8.7rc. Works reliably in Mint, KDEneon and Xubuntu on all available DEs the past two years. I'm curious what changed to bloat the latest version to 1M+ but not enough to test install.

You can try using the undecorate_window() function of devilspie2, or see if your window manager has such an option (with OpenBox I can just right-click on the title bar and click on "Un/decorate").

I took a look! Way too much for me. :problem:

I like the simplicity of the older version and it just works for what I want.

the new version has much more modern/better looking min/max/close buttons than the 2.x.x versions

compared to

and there have been other compatibility and performance fixes since the 2.8.7.rc which is almost 4 years old already

I also like the old fashioned looking buttons. I am not a fan of the modern flat look. Speaking just for myself, I find the modern flat look.........butt ugly.
Off-topic:
In linux Mint 18.3, the default look was the old fashioned Mint-X theme. In linux Mint 19, the default look is the modern flat Mint-Y theme. Since I don't like the modern flat looking theme in Mint 19, I changed the modern Mint-Y theme back to the old fashioned look of Mint-X.

understandable, but the old icons are also very blurry on HiDPI displays, and the background colors don't quite do it for me
