PM 28 & KeeFox/KeePass

Unread post by 1210_bex » 2018-08-05, 20:43

I have run KeeFox & KeePass on PM for years, and currently run them on PM 27.9.4 (32 bit), on Windows 7 Pro SP1.

The latest versions that will run on PM are:
KeePass 2.38
KeePassRPC 1.4.4.0
KeeFox 1.4.8.1-signed

I recently downloaded PM 28.0.5 [portable 32 bit], and installed ONLY KeeFox--no other add-ons. But there is a problem, because something is not loading correctly. On the attached, The Option screen for KeeFox should look like the top right image. But on PM 28, it looks like the bottom image.

Has anyone on the development team run into this problem? It is not related to running PM Portable, because for testing I have run PM since Ver 26 as 32 bit portable with KeeFox installed on the portable version (and KeePass on my primary computer), and never had a problem.

Actually, I think you probably downloaded PM 28.0.0b5. There is no 28.0.5 version yet. This is important because the "b" there indicates this is a beta version, since PM 28 is still the unstable branch and has not been officially released yet.

Also, please take a look at this announcement:

Due to changes between PM 27 and PM 28, extensions might need to be modified to work properly with PM 28.

You are correct. Not everyone seems to use the complete extension in this forum, so I did not. I'll remember to do better next time.

Thanks for reminding me of that post. I did remember seeing it sometime in the past, but forgot how to get to it.

KeeFox 1.4.8.1-signed is compatible with PM through 27. It is not on the PM Add-ons->Extensions list, so perhaps it is not 'approved' as such. Although I did not mention it, I ran another test where I installed all of the other 30+ add-ons I use with PM 27x, many of which are not on the PM 'approved' list. They all work with PM 28.0.0b5.

I know it is a lot of work to create a new version of software. And I assumed that one reason for releasing 'beta' versions was to expand the number of volunteers who do the testing. I understand that this problem might be with KeeFox, but it also might be with PM.

Yep, unfortunately I just upgraded to PM 28 and KeePass just broke for me as well. Hopefully someone can fork it/make a Pale Moon plugin for KeePass.

Use 1.8.0 from here: https://github.com/kee-org/KeeFox/releases

It works perfectly now with PM 28 whereas PM 27 needed a far older version to make it work (1.4.8).

Interesting. What versions of KeePass & KeePassRPC are you running?

I just installed the portable (32 bit) version of PM 28.0.0, and then tried to install KeeFox 1.8.0 on it. I got a pop-up saying: "Click the above button to link KeeFox to KeePass Password Safe 2. (Technically, this installs the KeePassRPC plugin for KeePass Password Safe 2.)" I did NOT click the button, and KeeFox 1.8.0 was not installed.

Can you tell me exactly what this messge means?

Because I currently run both PM 27.9.4 and Firefox 42 on my Windows 7 (64 bit) desktop, the latest versions that will run on these two are:
KeePass 2.38
KeePassRPC 1.4.4.0
KeeFox 1.4.8.1-signed

And those three programs are installed on my desktop computer. For earlier (before PM 28) versions of PM, all I had to install on my portable PM versions was KeeFox 1.4.8.1-signed.

Harry

I had exactly the same problem as you (PM 28.0.0 64-bit Win), with the same symptoms. Meminemy's link to KeeFox 1.8.0 worked, it installed OK and KeeFox menus are now displaying properly, although the KeeFox button has disappeared from the navigation toolbar and is not available to add. KeePassRPC is now 1.8.0.0, as shown in KeePass, but it doesn't seem to be linking - KeePass doesn't show any authorised clients. So a partial solution at best.

Right - I can't explain this but it works empirically so I'm sticking with it. I installed PassiFox (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefo ... /passifox/) in addition to KeeFox and suddenly autocomplete is working. I've tried disabling KeeFox and PassiFox individually to see which one is making the difference but either way seems to break autocomplete again, so for the moment I'll leave them both running.

KeePass now shows KeePassRPC 1.8.0.0 and KeeFox as an authorised client, but no reference to PassiFox anywhere. The KeeFox button has not reappeared in PM, but that doesn't bother me as KeeFox options are available from the Tools menu.

So, as I said, I can't explain it but it's working, and I don't have the time to experiment further. I hope this helps someone.

I read both of your posts. It is strange.

Do you only have the one version of Pale Moon installed on your computer? I have PM 27+ installed on my desktop, which is where KeePass is installed. I have PM 28 portable installed on a USB, which I mainly use for testing new version of PM. What I don't want to happen is to have KeeFox change KeePassRPC on my desktop to 1.8.0.0, because then KeePass will not work on my desktop installation. I went through all that trying to update KeePass & KeeFox 6 months or so ago.

Yes, only 28.0.0.1 64 bit.

Interestingly enough, KeeFox asks me to reauthenticate to link with KeePass when my computer comes out of hibernation in the morning, which it never did before, but that only takes a second.

If I have time, I'll do some experiments, but I'm really too busy at the moment.

Anyone had any luck with getting a combination of KeePass and KeeFox/Kee to work in Pale Moon 28? I tried using KeePass HTTP with KeeFox together as listed above to no avail. Just says that KeeFox is not installed. KeeFox wants to update when I try to use it, but as we know if I update it it will also not work in Pale Moon.

Have you tried installing PassiFox as well?

I tried PassiFox when v28 was in beta without success too. Now just using Keepass's inbuilt autotype - not as convenient, but acceptable.

Forked extensions :
● Add-ons Inspector ● Auto Text Link ● Copy As Plain Text ● Copy Hyperlink Text ● FireFTP button replacement ● gSearch Bar ● Navigation Bar Enhancer ● New Tab Links ● Number Tabs ● Print Preview Button and Keyboard Shortcut 2 ● Scrollbar Search Marker ● Simple Marker ● Tabs To Portfolio ● Update Alert ● Web Developer's Toolbox ● Zap Anything

Hint: If you expect a reply to your PM, allow replies...

I installed KeePassRPC 1.7.3.0 for Keepass 2.35 on Debian. It is messy to install (the right *.plgx file is from https://github.com/kee-org/keepassrpc/releases/), but it works together with Keefox 1.8.0. Do NOT update to Kee as it is a Webextension and will never work with Pale Moon anyway.
