Pale Moon 28: Completely buggy and unstable

Unread post by tor000 » 2018-08-17, 04:16

Since updating to version 28, when I opens a new window, it looks like this:
Image

PM is set to show the default home page.
Also: PM behaves unstable right from starting it, like it is about to crash (Not responding often, black patches appearing and the back button becomes disabled for no reasons, and it indeed crashed several times).
Tried to refresh PM manually by backing up and deleting my profile, and creating a new one and importing passwords, bookmarks and extensions, since the option for refreshing Pale Moon, has gone in version 28: still didn't helped.

I had little options but to downgrade back to version 27.9.4, in order to solve the problems.
Please take care about this.

If you're having issues with a new profile with only bookmarks, passwords, and extensions copied over, it's likely an extension compatibility issue. You might try disabling all extensions and see how well it works, then start enabling them one by one, or half of the extensions, then half of the remaining ones...however you see to best troubleshoot any extension issues. You might try this on Pale Moon portable so you can tinker with it while you can still use Pale Moon to your preferences. Note that Pale Moon runs a bit slower on jump drives if you go that route.

Obviously, you have a conflict with some of the extensions installed. You should look for the culprit, instead of blaming the browser.

These problem aren't happens with PM 27.9.4, but only on PM 28.0.0, so this can't be one of the extensions. Until now, I didn't experience conflicting between extensions. The only minor problem I have with PM 27.9.4, is that is stops responding once for several sec, when I opening Session Manager extension in the first time, to restore the last session. It don't happens afterwards. But with PM 28.0.0, it is always slow and often stop responding and behaves like it is about to crash, and even crashes often, while Session Manager unable to backup the current session with various error messages.

This is absolutely wrong conclusion, so further discussion is meaningless until you figure out how things work. No offense, just read the forum and educate yourself.

I noticed that you're running NoScript and uBlock Origin at the same time. As Cassette mentioned, try disabling all of your add-ons and seeing if Pale Moon works correctly after that. You can also try creating a brand new temporary profile.

Do you see anything in the browser console (CTRL+SHIFT+J) when you first start the browser up?

Moved to the Extensions board.

Also: support for any installation with NoScript installed will be limited due to known stability issues with it.

Why not trying the portable version with it's own clean profile - The best and most logical way to see if there are issues also with a clean state. And it does not mess around with your existing profile

very wrong conclusion. as a matter of fact, if something is working fine in an old version but breaks in new version, a vast majority of time an extension will be responsible. i suggest recreating your profile from scratch, as a lot of people are having issues migrating their old profiles over, myself included.

I tried to manually refresh Pale Moon, but wasn't helped. Also, the "Refresh Pale Moon" button, has been disappeared in the new version.

"Refresh Pale Moon" hasn't been called that in a while. If you want to get the same effect, just use "Restart in Safe Mode" and make all changes permanent.

Is this what you tried?

I backed up my profile, extensions and their data, passwords, and deleted the profile folder, and started Pale Moon, than re-changing all of the settings and restoring tabs, passwords and extensions.
Still nothing: Pale Moon slow, pages looks wrong or black, Session Manager warns that it can't save the current session and Pale Moon crashes.

What you need to try is Safe Mode. This will temporarily disable all of your extensions and themes. If the browser becomes stable in Safe Mode, then the culprit lies with one the add-ons installed in your profile.

If that still doesn't work, try creating a new temporary profile using the profile manager.

Has anyone thought to check the Error Console? I did restore it for a reason.

Whatever you do, don't try the suggestion of disabling all of your extensions and then enabling them bit by bit to discover any incompatibilities. That might fix the issue and we can't have that.

I downloaded Pale Moon Portable 28, to prevent messing with my existing profile on my PM 27.9.4, and tried to use it clean, and it was very slow compared to my PM 27.9.4, and often don't responding, and videos can't be played:
