Unread post by nostromo » 2018-05-16, 07:25

Hello.

Have a small issue with bing map display (worked until recently ....)

System is Linux Mint 18.2 Xfce 64 bit

Map pops up and then I have this here

With FF60.0 and Chromium 66.0.3359.139 I don't have that issue.

Any idea? br

Looks like some sort of content blocking is in place.
Whitelist virtualearth.net if you are using such an extension.

I am not using virtualearth.net. Not that I know.

Started pale moon in safe mode. Same behavior ....

Renamed folder ~ $ .moonchild productions to .moonchild productions.bak and started a "clean" pale moon. Same behavior ....

Bing maps itself uses virtualearth.net, that's where Bing's map content comes from.

You might also check your image permissions.

If they are set to accept only first-party images, change the setting to accept images from everywhere:
Preferences > Content > Load images: Automatically
(or if you used about:config, permissions.default.image = 1)
imageSettings.png

I am not aware, that I disabled the use of virtualearth.net

Settings here were and are like that

No success ....

I think, I get the actual data from virtualearth.net.

Switching "traffic" ON, I see actual traffic information and I can zoom in. But the graphic display is a mess

Image

I am using nvidia 384.111, but as I don't have that issue with FF and Chromium, I don't suspect the graphic driver ...

(I changed back to 340.104, but no change ...)

Any idea, what is going on here please?

I can't help with Bing since I don't use it, but you may be interested in Acme mapper. I use it with my GPS and it's great. There's even the Google Street View built-in. http://mapper.acme.com/

It's probably an issue with WebGL and your specific video driver, seeing that kind of corruption. Unfortunately I'm the wrong person to troubleshoot Linux video issues.

Is there some reason you do not want to use Google Maps? Google Maps is what I use in 64 bit linux Pale Moon 27.9.1 running in 64 bit linux Mint 18.3 (Sylvia) Xfce.

I normally don't use bing maps, but what interest (and puzzles) me is the issue I see here. I remember, that with previous versions of pale moon, bing maps was working.

And please have a look here

That is a screenshot of my desktop, I just made.

Three browsers (pale moon, FF and chromium) with bing maps selected. And I only see that issue with pale moon.

Hard for me to believe that ...

So, you are convinced that Firefox, Chromium and Pale Moon handle rendering the same way...?
They are vastly different.

I just checked https://www.bing.com/maps on an ancient (10+ years old) Intel Core2 with i915 builtin graphics, and it works fine. What do you get under the heading "Graphics" when you go to about:support in the URL bar? Maybe a screen cap of that.
There's a right way
There's a wrong way
And then there's my way

Few things to try:

1. Try disabling hardware acceleration if you have it enabled. (doesn't look like so from your picture)
2. Try disabling acceleration for canvas, set gfx.canvas.azure.accelerated to false
3. "skia" may not work perfectly on Linux so check using tried and tested "cairo" backend for canvas. Set gfx.canvas.azure.backends to cairo

#1. Tried that before. No change ...

#2. Does not exist

#3. THAT WORKS!!
