I remembered that I posted about the fact that Google Pictures removed the "View image" button and some users asked me to download View Image from the link in the thread you posted, and that the extension didn't worked at all. I've wondering if in its WebExtension version (Firefox and Google Chrome) it works?

Trlkly's fork of the userscript, posted by Nightbird above, works for me.
(with one glitch, see comment by psychonaut25)
To use the userscript, Greasemonkey for Pale Moon must be installed first.
Latest release is v3.31. Found here.
Then to install the userscript, open its page and click the button labeled "Raw".
