Mozilla monitoring Firefox for userChrome.css

I saw this posted on another forum. Looks like Mozilla wants to monitor if users of FF are using userChrome.css. I bet that sooner or later they will use this collected information to the detriment of FF users.

Yep. It is simply totally stupid. And moz's rationale is to protect users who break the browser by using css. What user has ever broken a browser using css? css users know what they are doing, or at least they know damn well how to rule out css in troubleshooting before going whining saying: my browser has broken the web.

I think moz used to "listen", and built a bit of a reputation on "listening". And have learnt that "listening" is a good thing (TM), so fatuously pretend to do so.

But their hypocrisy does tend to get a bit too much. Witness their decision to dump "legacy" extensions based on their telemetry showing hardly anyone installed extensions. Yet now they proudly continue to brand FF as "customisable" and happily state how many legacy extensions have been rewritten to webext. If hardly anyone uses extensions, why boast abt how many are now webext?

In the run up to FF57, with many users complaining abt the potential loss of UI customisability, we were told: no probs - use css. Now, clearly, moz is on a path to dump css.

Cos how many users use css? Must surely be a tiny minority.

FFS - and they are pushing "privacy" credentials with privacy.resistFingerprinting, which really can break the web...

On one hand they implement nice stuff like anti tracking for websites from TOR browser and on other hand they implement more and more telemetry and ads.
Cant understand this logic.

I think Mozilla will kill off CSS and when that happens; I think many power users of Firefox will make their way to a different browser.

Hahahahhahahaha. No. But they will get rid of userChrome.css because it is a user support nightmare. Much like everything else of value they have or will remove.

best way to either say "too few users are using it to have it around" or "too many users use it, so it is a possible exploitation issue" Either way, it will be removed sooner or later for sure as Mozilla does not want people today anymore to have control over the Firefox UI as Mozilla is all about "do not touch our UI".

Also, customization is not available in Chrome and Chrome users would for sure not switch over in a massive way to Firefox as long as it is "bloated" - and Mozilla's goal is to defeat Google Chrome

Clearly, telemetry and ads are fine as long as they are the ones that benefit from it.
