Re: Pale Moon 27 localization
There seem to be delays sometimes. Few weeks back I got a crowdin email note about new string changes but on their site everything was on 100%.dark_moon wrote:On your github you write german is 99% Verified but on crowdin its 100%

Re: Pale Moon 27 localization
Hi Jääskis!
We have no dedicated Finnish localization team at the moment, last year only two person made an occasional contribution to the translation into Finnish and no one contacted me directly. You can register at CrowdIn and view all the progress here - https://crowdin.com/project/pale-moon/fi/activity. You are welcome to join the translation, basic instructions are in the first post. Feel free to ask any questions if necessary.

Re: Pale Moon 27 localization
Here is the first beta build that is targeted to Pale Moon 27.7.* (also compatible with 27.0.0 and later). There were no new strings added since the last release yet.
Thanks all for feedback and contributions, new participants are always welcomed!

Re: Pale Moon 27 localization
Now I have translated few lines. I takes couple of hours. What is total number of lines? When there is now 81% ready in Finnish I would calculate, how long this will take.
By the way I see Swedish is all ready translated but not voted. I ought to understand some Swedish. Any help if I vote Swedish lines?

Re: Pale Moon 27 localization
Currently Finnish has 1571 strings / 7097 words untranslated (total 8920/39276).Jääskis wrote:Now I have translated few lines. I takes couple of hours. What is total number of lines? When there is now 81% ready in Finnish I would calculate, how long this will take.
Votes are useful only if there are conflicting translations.By the way I see Swedish is all ready translated but not voted. I ought to understand some Swedish. Any help if I vote Swedish lines?
Re: Pale Moon 27 localization
OK, it takes about 100 hours translate rest of Finnish lines. Not impossible, but it may be ready not before new year. If there is new major version (28) coming soon are there possibility that some of this new translations need new handling before they are in use for users? Otherway: is it better wait and translate only for new major version?
Re: Pale Moon 27 localization
I suggest you to use Finnish language pack for Firefox as a reference.Jääskis wrote:OK, it takes about 100 hours translate rest of Finnish lines. Not impossible, but it may be ready not before new year.
As far as I know there are no such plans, but even in this case new language packs are unlikely to be created again from scratch, but migrated from existing ones.If there is new major version (28) coming soon are there possibility that some of this new translations need new handling before they are in use for users? Re: Pale Moon 27 localization
Here is the next beta build that is targeted to Pale Moon 27.7.* (also compatible with 27.0.0 and later).
Please note that new strings were added to the project after 27.6, so all locales should be updated.

Re: Pale Moon 27 localization
Thank you for taking care of this.
Would it be possible not to remove the xpi's of older versions? We'd like to merge a Pale Moon ebuild into gentoo's tree, however we currently don't have a reliable source for version specific xpi's. Those github releases would be the easiest shot for everyone involved as it doesn't generate additional work for the Pale Moon team.
The published language packs on addons.palemoon.org aren't always compatible with the latest builds (e.g. they were compatible with 27.5.0 and not with 27.6.0 after it was released).

Re: Pale Moon 27 localization
If you mean this link, then the language packs located there are for test purposes only and can not be considered a trusted source._ntnn wrote:Would it be possible not to remove the xpi's of older versions?
You can use xpi-packages from the addons.palemoon.org or build unofficial versions from this repo yourself. We'd like to merge a Pale Moon ebuild into gentoo's tree
Please note that the language packs for Pale Moon 27.x are cumulative, i.e. they support all versions of the browser since 27.0.0, so there is no need for version-specific packages.we currently don't have a reliable source for version specific xpi's
This is impossible, otherwise we would have a constant flow of complaints of incompatibility. The published language packs on addons.palemoon.org aren't always compatible with the latest builds (e.g. they were compatible with 27.5.0 and not with 27.6.0 after it was released).
Re: Pale Moon 27 localization
Yes, and that is why we can't use the language packs provided on addons.palemoon.org. To ensure that the files received by a user are the same the maintainer evaluated and tested, maintainers of a package create a manifest, which contains hashes of all remote files that will be downloaded. When the language packs are updated the hashes are invalid and the package is broken until a maintainer regenerates them. Please note that the language packs for Pale Moon 27.x are cumulative, i.e. they support all versions of the browser since 27.0.0, so there is no need for version-specific packages.
That is at least the error I got after building 27.6.0 and trying to add a language pack, that's why I looked for alternatives as well. This is impossible, otherwise we would have a constant flow of complaints of incompatibility.
Either way - when the language packs start to require a specific version we'll need some sort of persistent store of versioned language pack xpi's anyhow.
The ebuild from deuiore actually clones your repository and uses that - however we'd like to avoid that, as that brings in some problems e.g. if the environment requires the use of a proxy.
As for the experimental status - I am well aware of that, but that is the least of Pale Moons problems on Gentoo and users are instructed after installation to first file bugs in the Gentoo bugtracker.
I'll look into building them based on the tarballs in the releases. Thanks.
Re: Pale Moon 27 localization
Next beta build of language packs (27.0.0-27.5.* compatible) has been published. Thanks to Роман Шендюх contribution Ukrainian language pack is finally 100% translated, verification is in progress.
Chinese Simplified, Greek, Portuguese, Portuguese (Brazilian), Spanish and Turkish need updating.

Re: Pale Moon 27 localization
This year's last beta build of language packs (27.0.0-27.5.* compatible) has been published. As several contributors began to work actively on the Indonesian locale and reached more than 30%, it's now also included in the regular beta builds.
Chinese (Simplified), Dutch, Greek, Portuguese (Brazilian), Spanish (Argentina) and Turkish need updating.
