Access Denied for kroger.com

Unread post by tman801 » 2017-10-11, 20:19

I have 3 computers that are dual booting W10 & Ubuntu 16.04. All updates are current. I mainly use Pale Moon & Ubuntu 16.04.
I have been logging into my Grocery chain web site without any problems until two days ago. I am now getting "Access Denied on this Server".
I can access the web site using Firefox or Chrome and If I boot into w10 I can access the site with all browsers including Pale Moon. Also my other two computers will access the site with W10 or Ubuntu and all browsers.
For some reason on this computer using Ubuntu and Pale Moon I can not access the site. I have tried Pale Moon without extensions and themes but it only gives me "Access Denied on this Server". I have cleared all history and still it won't open.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Probably HTTP error 403 (or 401) (maybe 402) But it's rare to get bombed with HTTP error 403 or the like, just because of using Pale Moon or using a non-Windows OS.

Thank you Fedor2.
I opened my home Folder and clicked on View and then clicked on "show hidden files". I then opened Moonchild Production folder and cut all the folders and files and pasted them in another new folder. Then I restarted Pale Moon and imported all my bookmarks and passwords. I clicked on my bookmark for the web site and all I got was the arrow running in a circle trying to load. I clicked on the address bar and the web site opened and I could sign in. I deleted old bookmark, added new bookmark and restarted Pale Moon. Still could not get it to open using new bookmark. Put it in Toolbar and it worked fine. Deleted new bookmark and copied bookmark from Toolbar to Bookmark Menu and now it works fine.
New profile seems to have solved the problem. Don't know why I was having so much trouble getting the Bookmark site to work, but everything seems to be alright now.

Well it seems to have stopped working again. Cannot access my grocery store web site from Pale Moon Bookmarks or Toolbar. Access Denied on this Server. Firefox works ok and Chrome does too.

Can you give us a link to the website?

Websites sometimes alter the URL of the pages you view to include your login session id. If you bookmark that url, and the session expires (as it will eventually),
then you can get a rejection from the site when you try to return using that stale url. You should edit the bookmark url to remove any such extraneous items.
I don't know why websites do this terrible thing. Perhaps because of uninformed visitors who get rid of their cookies, and then complain that they can't "stay logged in".

This is the error I get when i try to signin:
Access Denied
You don't have permission to access "http://www.kroger.com/" on this server.

Reference #18.6c60dc17.1507830015.449a5740
This only happens on this computer with Pale Moon in Ubuntu.

So you get this error after you enter your username and id? I don't have an account with Kroger so I can't test this.

But the situation you describe is odd, that it only happens on one out of three computers, and only on that computer with Pale Moon. It sounds like something on that specific computer is messing with your Pale Moon profile, but that doesn't even sound possible (to me). I'm sorry, I can't help. Hopefully somebody else can.

No-I now get this error after the web site loads and I try to sign in. I have even uninstalled Pale Moon and made a new profile and re-installed Pale Moon with same results. Since it is only on this computer and only the Linux OS, I wonder if I need to just make a clean install of Ubuntu and start over.

Did the Kroger management just blanket-ban Linux?

No. I can access Kroger with Firefox or Chrome in Linux.
I just remembered I had a cloned HD that I had not cloned in about 3 weeks. Normally I try and clone my HD's every week but had not because of other things. So I put the #2 Cloned HD in and updated Ubuntu. Then went to Kroger Bookmark and it opened and let me sign in without any problems just way it always did.
I am thinking the #1 HD has a corrupted Ubuntu OS or a corrupted Pale Moon Browser as it works on the other computers and it works with this #2 HD. I am going to try this #2 HD for a while and see if the problem is solved.

I can verify this error as well.
Access Denied
You don't have permission to access "http://www.kroger.com/" on this server.

Reference #18.f4bc3b17.1507861222.1474ee0a
But it works with this user agent
general.useragent.override.kroger.com

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:56.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/56.0
It works with this user agent as well but it says I have to upgrade the browser
general.useragent.override.kroger.com

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:3.3) Goanna/20170101 PaleMoon/27.5.1

I had not thought about the "useragent". I checked my "about:config" but none of my HD's had that Kroger useragent in it. Since it is working alright for now I am going to leave it alone. I have saved your reply in a Ubuntu tip folder for later if I should need it.
Thanks again to everyone who replied.

Looks like one of the rare bird web servers that throw an HTTP error 403 bomb, just because of the UA! Possibly bombing folks with HTTP error 403, just because it looks like an earlier Firefox!

I'm glad I stumbled across this thread. I just did a fresh reinstall of Win 10 and Pale Moon yesterday. Everything appeared to be working properly; that is, until I went to Kroger's site. Now I get the same Access Denied message when I try to log in. I haven't yet installed Firefox, but I can log in fine using Opera and Edge browsers. Before today, I never had a problem accessing Kroger using Pale Moon with the same 64-bit 27.5.1 version. Totally mystified!

PS: I was away for the past week, so this "funny" may have started a week or more before today!

When visiting with Firefox compatibility in UA, it loads up fine. Gecko compatibility will throw a 403.
I guess I'll send them a note about it.

I again started having the same problem. It said I needed to upgrade my browser to firefox or 3 others. So I did what troypulk suggested in adding this " general.useragent.override.kroger.com
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:56.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/56.0 " to the general.useragent.override. So far it seems to be working again.

I just tried to go to Dillons'com, which is a subsidiary of Kroger
I am getting the same problem. At first I could see the main page and then I clicked on the order online link
and then I got the error message that access was denied on this server.

I was not signed into my plus card account at the time - was just going to the website.

I can go to Dillons website with Firefox and Edge, but not Pale Moon.

So did you try the override? Just change the "kroger.com" part to Dillons.com.
