Can not open Unsorted Bookmarks

Unread post by askfor » 2017-05-10, 13:09

Is it just me or "Unsorted Bookmarks' can't be open as normal bookmark folder ? Bookmark entry does not have arrow pointing right, as other folder. Clicking on it results in opening Bookmark Organize Interface. 27.3, Slackware Linux 14.2. PM installed from DEB repository.

That seems to be the behavior for me too. However, I've never opened the Unsorted Bookmarks section before today. I don't have any bookmarks there, and I wish I could disable or hide that feature entirely.

If I had to guess, I'd say It is not a directory or folder, so it doesn't behave like one. It is likely a dynamic search, and only provided as a way to show orphaned bookmarks to the user so they can get them where they need to be ASAP.

As far as I remember Firefox (I don't use it any more), when the bookmark was added, it went into Unsorted Bookmarks. Pale Moon works like old Firefox, and you are placing bookmark where you want it inside bookmark hierarchy. So, Unsorted Bookmarks has no purpose at all.

I've never opened a bookmark from unsorted bookmarks either, it is at the bottom of all bookmarks and if they are clicked on it opens the Bookmark Library interface and the bookmark itself (unsorted) is at the bottom of the list of bookmarks (as illustrated in the screen-shot where I've scrolled all the way to the bottom to display the "unsorted bookmark" folder):

... and yes this is exactly how FF works as well.

It looks to me that this is the way it's supposed to work. So no, there would not appear to be a "bug". That is based on the answers to your other questions:

... this is what I and others get as well. The "Unsorted Bookmarks" open the Bookmarks Library interface which is presumably to be expected and as such does not have a right pointing arrow like other standard bookmarks.

This is by design.

Unsorted Bookmarks is not an actual bookmarks folder. It is a dynamically-generated "folder" for bookmarks you've made but have not placed in your bookmarks yet -- it's comparable to an "inbox queue".

As such, it can't be opened in any other place than the full library window.

I see. When the bookmark is added by star icon, it ends in Unsorted Bookmarks. The problem was that I almost never do that, so it appeared to me that Unsorted Bookmarks have no purpose. I prefer to place bookmark properly into bookmarks tree.

BTW, my bookmarks are organized similar to USENET groups hierarchy, so everything has proper place to go.

Please do not change the behaviour of Unsorted Bookmarks. For most of 10 years using Pale Moon and before that the older Firefox I have used Unsorted Bookmarks to 'hide' bookmarks that I don't use too regularly and don't want to even see when I access a bookmarked site on the main bookmarks menu. For me Unsorted Bookmarks these days is mostly for Linux and tech information and tools that is of some importance to me but I want to limit my use of, because it's not 'real life stuff', like news, politics, books, sports, banking. Isn't that almost the described purpose? If you don't want something in the main bookmarks section it's therefore unsorted. It's sensible to me, and because I've built my useflow around it I'll be annoyed if it's changed.
